1991 Topps Stadium Club Variations

This morning there was a forum post over at the Trading Card Database discussing a variation in the 1991 Topps Stadium Club set.  It seems that most if not all of the cards have a one of these back variations.  While some members are working on putting a checklist together it's noted that cards fall into one of three catagories.  Some cards have and A or B by the Topps copyright on the bottom right of the card, or a C or D, or E or F.  Robin falls into the A or B category.  I don't think there's any rarity to either variation as I found an example of each is just a handful of cards.

If you're having trouble seeing the variations, you're not alone I had trouble with my old eyes as well.  Here's a close up of the two different variations.

1990 Donruss Variations

I have to say, maybe it's because I opened so much of this product, but 1990 Donruss is one of my least favorite sets of all time.  I lovingly refer to this set as the vomit set.  The color variations used for the Best of the NL and AL sets helped, but the base red just, well it gets old.  That being said like sets previous and after there are a few variations to look for, if you're into that.

Again this year has the missing period after the INC in the copyright.

I looked through my stack of 1990 Yount cards and I found both the INC. and INC pretty equally distributed through my stack.

And another reoccurring theme is a slight difference between the wax pack cards and the ones printed for the factory set.  This time it's an almost imperceivable difference in the splattering on the border on the front of the card.  Here have a look.

The card on the right is the factory set card
The card on the right in this picture is also the factory set card

I literally was driving myself batty on TCDB.com trying to figure out what the difference was until I had to do a google search about the difference, but once you see it, it is there.

1989 Donruss Variations

Since Robin isn't featured in this year's Donruss and I thought I'd start wading into the plethora of Donruss variations the have been documented over on the Trading Card Database.  So far the variations have been cataloged from 1987 to 1992 and Robin has variations in each set.

I decided to start with the four variations in the 1989 set because they are fairly straight forward and as you will see pretty minute.

All the variations have to do with omissions and additions on the back of the card.

The first variation has to do with the copyright line.  The INC can either have a period after the INC or it's absent.  The second variation can be found just below that on the Denotes Led League.  Denotes will either have an one asterisk before Denotes or it will have an asterisk before and after Denotes.  So the four variations are:

1. INC.  *Denotes
2. INC *Denotes (no period after the INC)
3. INC. *Denotes*
4. INC *Denotes* (no period after the INC)

Examples of each are below.

The fact that I don't remember this being a big deal back in 88 says a lot for how minor the variations are.  I also have no idea on rarity between the different variations.  Although looking through my stack of 88 Younts the missing period with *Denotes was the toughest to find.

Since the diligent members of the TCDB went through the trouble of documenting all these variations in the various sets, I figure it's the least I can do to disseminate them here and also check my collection to see if I have them all.  S

2013 Gypsy Queens

Catching up on some summer acquisitions.  This year Robin had another card in Gypsy Queen. From early checklists I thought he would also have framed parallels, but it looks like that didn't happen.

He did however have all the mini parallels and a mini variation.

Here's the parallel. These were found in the little mini boxes that came with each hobby box. This was actually the image they used for his framed mini relic last year.
The Green numbered to 99.

And the black numbered to 199.

The only other mini parallel I'm missing besides the printing plates is the sepia.

2010 Yount Pick ups.

I've been on a bit of spending spree.  The last year there were lots of higher end cards of Mr. Yount that came out and were on the market.  I got a little impatient seening as my Yount collection hasn't really been expanding much this year.

The first few pick ups I've already posted but I'll put them up again all in a row.
Series 1 Manupatch Hat old style.  Still looking for my baseball mitt logo, and I haven't seen one in a while.

Manu Bat Barrel #d to 99.  Dispite what everybody says I really like these cards.

Manu Bat Barrel Black #d to 25 slightly damaged.  Notice the little nick on the right hand side.  Still a nice card.
There is the super rare 1/1 pink bat card still out there but I doubt I'd be able to afford it.

Topps National Chicle had a yount card with back Variations.  I've got the regular and NC backs and I'm looking at a Bazooka Back that I might have to pull the trigger on.  There's also the umbrella back but I haven't seen one up on ebay so I don't know if I'm going to be able to find it.

There's also the Series 1 Topps Variation card #116.  Yount also had one in last years set.

The Series 2, 4th of July Manu Hat patck #d 35/99 fresh from the mail.

Another pick up was the 2010 Finest Logoman patch card #d 16/50, finally!
2010 Topps Update also had this Yount in the Turkey Red insert set.  Fitting after Thanksgiving.

cb out.
