COMC Black Friday Haul #44

I'll admit I'm a bit fan of Topps Gallery from way back in the early days of the brand.  2017 marked the return of the set, which I was excited for, I was not excited that this was a Wal-Mart exclusive as this is a set that also begs to be in hobby shops.  I love that Topps also commissioned artists for the set. It would have been easy for Topps to just run some Getty Images through some Photoshop filters to get a similar result, something I sure they've done, but Dan Bergren does a great job on this Yount piece.  Add the marbly blue border for this parallel and it's a cardboard masterpiece.  As I stated a few posts ago one of the best things about COMC is being able to find cards like this as they pop up for great prices, sometimes it's a waiting game.  But it pays off.

Still working through my Black Friday haul from COMC.  Next up one of favorite sets that Topps produces.  Topps started the brand in 1996 and still puts out sets today, although the past couple year's have been retail exclusives.  I didn't know much about the artist, Ron Stark, but he does have a website and appears to be as active as ever as a sports artist.  

What's most odd about the set is there aren't a ton of parallels to chase.  Other than the inserted printing plates there's not any full parallel sets.  There are a couple player variations for certain players, Robin is not one of them.

2003 Topps Gallery Hall of Fame Artifacts Bat Relic

Topps Gallery was a staple in the market for quite a few years starting in 1996 till it's last issue in 2005.  In 2003 Topps put out two Gallery sets.  The regular and a Hall of Fame edition, with you know Hall of Famers.

Robin has a bunch of cards in the set with parallels and variations.  Even his ARTifact bat relic has a couple parallels and he even has a couple autographs in the set, although I can't remember ever seeing them.

I was able to snag this base relic from COMC during Black Friday for cheap.  I really kind of miss Topps Gallery.  Topps actually paid artists to produce this, not just run a photo through a Photoshop filter.

The artist for this card is Stephen Gardner, which is acknowledged on the base cards.  Packs and boxes still command a premium with packs going for $8-9 buck and boxes going for about $150-200.
