2024 Topps Archives Signature Series - Retired Edition Yount Checklist - Always a work in progress

 Once again Robin is featured as a signer in this year's Archives Signature Series - Retired Edition.  If you don't know what Archives Signature Series is it's basically Topps having player, in this case retired players many of the HOFers, sign buyback cards from their playing days or cards issued more recently.  Since Topps doesn't actually release a checklist of the cards they sign we get the fun task of compiling our own.  

So this post will be a work in progress as cards come up for sale I'll add them to the checklist.

2020 Topps Archives Robin Yount Checklist

This year Robin is featured in the 1955 design and the card looks awesome.  One of my biggest complaints from Archives in year's past is that in the sets that Robin was included he gets featured in a set design from when he was an active player.  Anyways here is the checklist of cards to chase.  I'll also update this is any of the other cards end up having parallels.

COMC Black Friday Haul #42

Keeping with the last couple posts we have another parallel to show off.  One of the things I really love about COMC and one of the main reasons it's become my primary online shopping source is it allows me to play the long game when it comes to picking up parallels like this.  Had I tried to pick this up off of eBay back in 2015 it would have likely cost me close to $10 with shipping.  That's a lot more than I paid for it or would have wanted to pay for it.  Overall I love the card and photo choice.  I would gripe about the photo being overused, but to be fair there are multiple photos of Robin in this pose taken throughout his career.  It's very possible this is reused image, as in  Topps was reusing lots of the same image over and over around this time frame.  Still a great card and still low numbered and a great addition to the collection

OK here's my problem with Archives. Or rather here's my problem with Robin's cards in Archives.  The 2018 base set had three designs, 1959, 1977, and 1981 Topps.  Robin was actually featured in 2 of those sets, so why couldn't he have been featured in the 1959 design for Archives?  I mean I like the photo used and I don't hate the 1977 design, but I've got Robin's real 1977 Topps card no need to reimagine it.  Ahem yeah I'm a little cranky this morning.  Anyways the purple parallels are numbered to just 175 copies and look very nice in hand.  I'm a sucker for the purple cards.

Patience. As far as card collecting is concerned I've learned to have a lot of patience.  There were days not too long ago that I would have jumped all over any and all parallels for Robin right when they were released.  It's a  conundrum at times, because the time you see the most of any one particular card, parallel wise, is at release, that's also the time when prices are highest.  As I've gotten older, married, and become a father, my priorities have shifted, as well as, my extra cash.  So I wait.  I'll probably harp on this a little more, but I quit eBay, both buying and selling early last year.  While eBay may still be the largest online market place for just about everything, the fees and predatory buyers made selling a hassle and the increase in postage made buying single cards even more expensive.  Hence why I've picked up the majority of new additions via COMC.  What does this card have to do with patience?  Well everything.  I sure didn't pounce on one of these low numbered parallels when the set was released and I still hadn't purchased one for over 4 years.  But patience paid off and I found this card for a great price a couple months before Black Friday.  It's another reason I love shopping on COMC.  While deals can be elusive at times, with a little work and patience they can be had.

Robin is featured in the main set in the 1993 design and that includes a few parallels.  I'll add images when stuff starts showing up.  There might also be some retail parallels not listed in the original checklist.

2018 Topps Archives Robin Yount Checklist and Gallery

I'm not sure but I think this is the first base card that Robin has this year.  And of course a couple inserts.  I'll add images as I find them.  Retail hits 8/14/18, but Hobby was pushed back to September.  That'll be interesting to see what kind of interest there is in the Hobby product with a retail version having already been out a month, but maybe there will be some hobby exclusive goodies that will make it worth it.

New Yount Alert

We have two new products coming out this Wednesday and Robin has cards in both of them.

Robin has a base card in Topps Archives and this time he's on a card design he's never been featured on.  The past two years Robin was also in the Archives base set, but featured on a designs that he'd actually had a card in those original sets.  This year he's featured on the 1957 design and will have all the parallels that go along with it. He is also featured in the original buy back autograph set.  How many cards is that?  Who knows.

He's also featured in Topps Finest - Finest Generations insert set and the parallel cards.  He's not featured in the autograph set.

Topps also released some new online wall art featuring the new Finest design. Robin has two card available, or were available.  His base card in numbered to 49 and is $69.99, He also has a gold parallel numbered to 1 that someone has already purchased, that card was offered for $199.99.

The nice thing with the online wall art is we get to see what Robin's Topps Finest card will look like.

This was the second year in a row Robin was issued a card in Topps Archives set. Robin was put on the 1980's design. I think it would have been better had he gotten on the 1973 design since he had actual cards issued for him in all the other design years featured this year, but at least they used a different picture.  And with getting a base card you also get all the other parallels that go along with that.  This year there were two the Gold #d to 199 and these Silver parallels #d to 99.  There are also the 4 printing plates as well.

I apologize for the crappy scan.  The scratches and stains are from the scanner, top loader and penny sleeve not the card.  And the scan doesn't do the card justice.  A nice shiny parallel for the collection.
