Wow it's been awhile since I featured a card post.  Of course keeping up with all the new Younts is fun and good, but so is cardboard appreciation.  I requested shipment of my COMC portfolio after the Black Friday sale and a quick 3 months later I finally had my stack.  I really should have done a better job of keeping track of how many Younts came in that shipment.  Let's just say there were a lot of new additions.  

Since my last delivery I picked most of the 2021 Triple Threads Rainbow.    You would likely be hard pressed to be able to identify Triple Threads to the year from its design, they all seem to be very similar, much like Panini Prizm, from year to year.  But it's a very pretty card in the hand.  The holographic foil pairs very nicely with the black background.

One of the cooler and rarer cards I picked up last year is this Sapphire parallel from 2022 Triple Threads.  While you'd be hard pressed to tell one year's base cards from the other it's still a nice looking card on thicker stock, but it's a well used image.

My most recent COMC order, 7 months in the waiting, contained almost 2 full years of card purchases.  My usual MO is I wait till COMC's big Black Friday event, buy and bunch of cards and then have my whole port shipped.  Of course with the pandemic and COMC's troubles with staffing, processing, and shipping, I held off for quite a while. Last year's Black Friday sale was also a big disappointment, mainly because of COMCs issues with processing new cards.  Usually COMC will have a big influx of new cards right before the event and while the cards might have come, many weren't processed in time for the Black Friday sale.  So that meant there was a lot of stale inventory.  And while I still came away with some nice cards I didn't spend near the amount I would have or picked up as many cards.

Ahem, rant over.  I was able to pick up a nice rainbow of flavors of Robin's 2019 Triple Threads cards. To start off here's his Gold Parallel from the set.  Honestly, except for the serial numbering on the card this looks very similar to his base card in the set.  Thankfully most of the other color parallels are easier to spot.

Whew am I glad my COMC Black Friday haul posts are done.  I ended up picking up this great 2019 Triple Threads Onyx parallel from my LCS, Bosco's.  I can't remember if I had stopped by for one of their semi-regular card shows or if it was their monthly Trade Night, but the trading card manager Moe had sent me a message on Twitter with a nice selection Brewers cards he had picked up and set aside for me.  In the batch was this card, plus the base.  I've said it many times before but it's super rare that I find new Younts locally.  But it does happen from time to time and I love it.  It seems to me that over the last couple year's almost across all of the Topps brands that Topps has made their parallels more and more subtle.  If this wasn't serial numbered to 50 on the front you might pass this off as a base card.

COMC Black Friady Haul #17

I picked up a couple nice relics of Robins this past year.  This card was by far the lowest numbered relic of the bunch.  Again this card was purchased months before the Black Friday event, but was included in my yearly shipement afterwards.  I can remember when these came out back in 2012 and thought they were really cool.  I love the double sided relic, although I'm fairly certain it's the same hunk of wood seen from both sides.  The card highlights Robin's nicknames at the start and end of his career.  Nicknamed the Kid when he broke into the majors, a nickname that has been shared by many players before and since.  And of course Rockin' Robin.  Both sides feature images that were very overused that year and have been since.

I'm not ashamed to say I paid just over $6 for the card.  To me that's  a great price for this very low numbered card of my favorite HOF player and to think this was a hit out of a $100 plus box of cards.  Seems I made out OK on the deal.

2008 Topps Triple Threads Emerald Parallel

2008 was the third year of Topps' mid-high end product.  This wasn't Topps' most premium brand at the time, that was Sterling, but Triple Threads was a close second. It's a set that's composition really hasn't changed much since it was first introduced in 2006.  The base cards in the 2008 set have this bumpy texture to them which is kind of odd, but I love that the serial numbering is huge.  I also like the vintage image used for the card and we can date the image to sometime pre-1978 from the uniform and batting helmet.

Additionally while the backs are pretty much a right-off, the card number is large and the back is colored to match the parallel and isn't just a back used across all the parallels like alot of Topps' sets today.

Ah good old Triple Threads.  Chances are if you like Triple Threads you still like Triple Threads, because over the years the relics, autos and auto relics really haven't changed much.  The base cards still have a ton of foil and multiple color parallels.  The main thing that has changed since the early days of Triple Threads is the base cards are no longer numbered.  If you remember the base cards were numbered to 1350. 

Anyway, we have here today Robin's Emerald parallel base card numbered to 250.  It's a nice looking card using an over used image.  Pretty typical for Topps in 2013 to reuse the same image for retired players in multiple products.  Actually they still do it on a pretty regular basis now.  I do like that the card has a green tint, green foil, and that the back of the card is also shaded green.

2008 would mark the third year for Topps mid-high end brand.  The base cards were still serial numbered and the inserts still all looked the same.  I guess that's the one constant through the years with triple threads.  Relics and autograph cards still all kind of look the same.

Still the Triple Threads base cards are fun to chase down and collect.  They don't number the base cards anymore and I would suspect that eventually Topps will just do away with the base set.

Sorry about the scan, I should have taken the card out of the top loader and penny sleeve, but I'm not going to dig it back out so it is what it is. 

I've never been a huge fan of Triple Threads.  Maybe its because the cards look the same year after year, or that the relic gimmicks just aren't my taste, but I'm not going to let that stop me from adding any of Robin's cards from the set to my collection.  This card celebrates Robin's 251 career home runs.  Not a monster number compared to the some of the power hits, but still very respectable.  And while the lettering may make this card look like a 6 relic card it vary obviously is only 3 separate relic pieces.  Like all things Topps there are a ton of parallels in the set, but even what is considered the base relic card is limited to only 36 copies and this sepia parallel is numbered to just 27.  The star of the card are the relic pieces with Robin's head taking up a very small portion of the card.

I ended up picking up a few Triple Threads color parallels I was lacking this Black Friday from COMC.  I really like the 2013 Triple Threads parallels. I like the design overall even if Topps used the this image for a 1000 other cards that year.  I also like that the color parallel is carried over to the back of the card. 

Triple Threads is a product that I have no interest in breaking.  Well let me clarify I would love to open boxes of Triple Threads I just don't have that kind of money to open a product that I doubt I'd get any cards I wanted in it.  So the only reason would be to break it and then try to resell what I got for a profit and that's always a losing bet with high end stuff like this.  But I will pick up the cards I want on the secondary market.  Sometimes I have to wait years before I find cards at a decent price.

Another card picked up from COMC.  And again I was lucky enough to find a sweet deal on this guy.

I'm slowly acquiring most of the color parallels of Robin's from last years Triple Threads.   There was a time where I actively went after as many of the parallels as possible, but now I'm more of a sit and wait kind of collector.  And when a deal comes along I snag it.  So the Onyx parallel comes into the collection.  I was a little disappointed that Robin wasn't in this year's Triple Threads base set, but at least he does have a few relic cards.

2015 Topps Triple Threads Yount Checklist

Robin is only featured in one insert set in this years Triple Threads but that also comes with a 5 parallels.  Still the base card is numbered only to 36 so these will be pricey relic cards.  Robin is in the Relic Legends set.  I'll add images after these start hitting the market next week.
