1982 Topps GMA graded 10

Year: 1982
Manfacturer: Topps
Set: Flagship Baseball
Card Number: 435
Card Attriutes: Graded
Grading Company: GMA
Grade: Gem Mint 10

I know I know you're probably going to say GMA?  I really don't target, or for that matter really care about, graded cards.  Sure I have a  nice stack of graded Younts, but most of those were gifts.  As a matter of fact as far as I can remember I've only really ever gone after two graded cards.  And this is one of them.  I can remember really wanted a really nice 1982 Topps Yount card.  Remembering why I wanted it is the problem.  The other thing is I have no idea why I settle on going after and acquiring a GMA graded example.  Probably because, like me, it was cheap.  I for the life of me don't remember what I paid for this but I know it wasn't pricey.  And for all the crap GMA may get for being a bargain basement grading company this 82 Topps Yount is a very nice looking card.  Not perfectly centered, which I guess doesn't affect the grade, but all four corners are sharp and the card is super clean.

1989 Topps Big PSA Graded 8

Year: 1989
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Topps Big Baseball
Card Number: 249
Card Type: Base
Card Attributes: Graded
Grading Company: PSA
Grade NM-MT 8

Continuing on my with my collection of graded cards I got from fellow Yount collector Matt, about a decade ago is this 1989 Topps Big card.  The card graded NM-MT 8 and to my aging eyes the card looks great.

As a collector that loves oddballs and gimmicks I like the Topps Big set.  But as a practical collector I find the large size a hurdle, much like 1989 Bowman, for storage and display, but this card fits right into the rest of my graded card collection.

1990 Score Superstar PSA graded 10

Year: 1990
Manufacturer: Score
Card Set: Score Superstars Box Set
Card Number: 92
Card Attributes: Graded
Grading Company: PSA
Grade: Gem Mint 10

Over the years I've never really gotten into graded cards.   I can count on one hand the number of graded cards I've actually purchased, but quite a few year's ago a fellow Yount collector, Matt,  sent me a ton graded Younts while trying to pare down his collection.  Matt has the highest ranking Yount collection on the PSA registry and about a decade ago he contacted me asking if I'd like some of his extras that didn't make the grade for his registry set.  Not to look a gift horse in the mouth I graciously accepted and 99% of the graded Yount cards in my collection have come from him.  The cards he sent were all in beautiful shape, but most did not make the grade to gem mint 10.  However mixed in the lots were a couple cards that did.  One of those cards was this 1990 Score Superstars.

The 1990 Superstars set was a box set of 100 cards.  It's about the size of the old Topps Traded sets. And like all sets from this era it was grossly overproduced, however the nice thing about the box sets from the 80s and 90s is they are chocked full of superstars and now HOFers.

The Highs and the Lows - COMC style - November 2015

I'm not a huge buyer on COMC, at least not anymore.  But I do check in periodically to see if I can find a challenge to earn me some free store credit.  And while I lament that great deals are few and far between I still find one every now and then.  That being said I thought it would be fun to see what COMC.com has to offer on the high end and low end for Robin.

Currently COMC has 886 cards that feature Robin Yount, either solo or as an ensemble.

Right now the cheapest card on the site for Robin is this one.
All images courtesy of COMC.com

Robin's 2013 Topps Chasing History insert can be yours for the low low price of 37 cents.  That's not bad at all really for this insert.  Especially since it's cheaper than all his junk wax cards on the site.

On the high end are these pair of graded rookie cards.
This PSA 8 card has an asking price of $280.25.
Followed closely by this BVG 8.5 for $250.99.
Both very nice looking cards.

The most expensive non-rookie card on the site is this 2002 Topps Tribute Pastime Patches card for $149.25, but is currently on sale for half off $74.75.  Even at half off this card seems really expensive for a non-autographed card, even if it is rare.
And if we don't count the asking price in the mix the highest card is this one
2004 SP Prospects Draft Generations Triple Autographs numbered to just 25.  Seems a little steep at $128.45.  Sure it's a triple auto that's very low numbered, but you can pick up Ben Sheets and Mark Rogers autos for a couple bucks so the premium, as it should be, is for Robin's auto.  But it's a sticker auto.  A nice card and I like the theme, just way overpriced.  I could see this card in the $50 range, but for almost triple that I expect it'll sit on the site forever.

1982 Topps SGC Graded Near Mint 88

Card Manufacturer: Topps
Card Set: Topps Baseball
Year:  1982
Card Number: 435
Card Type: Base
Attributes: Graded
Grading Company: SGC
Grade: 88 NM/MT 8

Years ago I was blessed by a fellow Yount collector, Matt, he sent me two huge boxes of Robin Yount cards, both graded and ungraded. You can read that post here from 2011. Needless to say it was one of the greatest gifts I've ever been given in my collecting career. It's also one of the reasons I also try and put a little extra into every trade package I send. As I've been revamping The Yount Collector, those gifts will be popping up from time to time, especially all the great graded cards I received.

But first I want to feature one more graded card I picked up way back at the dawn of this blog. This card goes with the Graded 1987 Topps I posted about earlier. At the time I was looking to improve the collection and one way I wanted to improve it was to get some quality slabbed cards. Sure I'd already have tens if not hundreds of a lot of these cards, but getting one graded was another story.  My quest didn't last too long. I can't really remember how many graded Younts I picked up in total, but this 1982 SGC graded one is another I remember very clearly.  I originally posted about it way back near the dawn of the blog, here.

I looked for a cheap PSA card and finding none I settled for this 88 SGC. I really like the way the card looks in the slab. SGC has the nice cut outs for the corners and the black insert really makes the card stand out.

1987 Topps PSA Graded Gem Mint 10

Card Manufacturer: Topps
Card Set: Topps Baseball
Year:  1987
Card Number: 773
Card Type: Base
Attributes: Graded
Grading Company: PSA
Grade: GEM MT 10

Sometimes I just get itch I can't scratch.  A few years back I just decided I'd pick up a few graded Younts for the collection.  With 1987 Topps having a soft spot in my heart because it was the first set I actively collected I searched Ebay until I found this beauty.  Not only was it gem mint 10, it was cheap.  For my collecting purposes I consider a graded card and a raw card as two unique cards.

The scans don't do the card justice it really is a beautiful example and while you can tell its not perfectly centered it's pretty darn close. I probably have over 100 1987 Topps Younts laying around, but this is the only one that's graded.  I'll be featuring a lot more from my graded collection in the future too.
