2019 Topps Update Legends Variation

Year: 2019
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Topps Update
Card Number: US168
Card Type: Variation
Variation Type: Legends SP

COMC Black Friday Haul #34

We got a double dip in 2019 with Robin getting a Legends Variation in Series 2 and again in the Update series.  Topps picked another great photo to use for Robin's card.  Personally I'm a big fan of these legends variations. First there's no doubt when you pull one of these that you have something special and it's a great way to get retired and HOF players into a new set.

On the Radar - 2019 Topps Update

After looking through the released checklist for 2019 Update I was a little bummed and relieved that Robin wasn't featured in any of the inserts sets.  Fast forward to yesterday, when the product was released and low and behold Robin is once again featured as a Legends variation subject.

It's an interesting photo choice, but it's nice to see an image that to my knowledge hasn't been used for a trading card yet.

2009 Topps Legends Historical Commemorative Patch 1980 All-Star Game

Year: 2009
Manfacturer: Topps
Card Set: Flagship Baseball
Card Number: LPR-142
Card Type: Insert, Manufactured Relic
Insert Set: Legends Commemorative Patch
Card Attributes: Manufactured Replica All-Star Patch

I've never been a fan of Topps calling these cards relics and having them count as hits in their products.  That said I don't hate these types of cards.  I actually like the "Manurelics".  Robin has three cards in this set commemorating all three of his All-Star Appearances.  This one, obviously, commemorates his first All-Star appearance in 1980.  And while I don't hate these types of cards I do hate how cheap the patch looks.  I also hate that it looks like it was just hot glued in, which it probably was.  You can't tell from the scan but the background is just the gray backside of the back of the card.  It would have been nice had the opening been cut to fit the patch better.  If memory serves me these were inserted into Series 1 and Series 2 packs, with 75 in Series 1 and 75 in Series 2.  Although I don't remember and a quick internet search didn't help me all that much.

2017 Topps Series 1 New Younts confirmed!!

Just a quick heads up.  We are still a few weeks away from the release of 2017 Topps Series 1, but Topps released the checklist, although it's not complete, because card numbered have not been assigned to the base cards.  That said it looks like all the inserts are correctly labeled and Robin is in the Salute set.  It looks like the overall set is sub-divided up into different Salutes to, like Father's Day, Legends, Memorial Day, Rookies, etc.  The sell sheets also mention a Red and Platinum parallel in the autograph set and the examples below show a Red parallel in the base set as well, so we can probably assume there will be a Platinum parallel too.

Robin's card is S-17 in the base set and TSA-RY in the autograph set.  So right now it looks like there will be at least 6 cards to chase with Red's being serial numbered, but not listed to what yet on the sell sheet, and Platinum parallels numbered 1 of 1.  I've posted examples of the card designs below and I'll have an offical post after this is released to keep as a gallery page.

2016 Topps Stadium Club Legends Die-Cut

Year: 2016
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Stadium Club
Card Number: LDC-1
Card Type: Insert
Insert Set: Legends Die-Cuts
Card Attributes: Die-Cut

I recently added 7 new Yount cards to the collection. All from 2016 sets and 6 of those were all purchased with my latest order from Justcommons.com.  As is my MO I waited till I had 3 or 4 sets I needed to pick up cards for my Brewers team sets as luck would have it there were still a few Yount inserts to be had.  Besides having a base card and all the parallels to that in this year's Stadium Club set Robin is also featured in the Legends Die-Cut set.

I'm a big fan of oddball cards and I consider the die-cuts a little oddball.  The card is Topps Chromium and is very shiney and did I mention die-cut?  These fall one per box, so out of a set of 10 a harder pull.
