1984 Donruss Diamond Kings Error

Year: 1984
Manufacturer: Donruss
Set: Flagship
Card Number: 1
Card Type: Base, Sub-set
Sub-Set: Diamond Kings
Card Note: Error
Error: Perez-Steel, should be Perez-Steele (later corrected)

I'm a huge fan of the classic Diamond Kings.  Dick Perez is a giant among sports artists and has been a staple in trading cards for decades.  All the 1984 Diamond Kings have this early printing error where the Perez-Steele Galleries was missing the E in Steele.  Minor, forgettable, but none the less a corrected error. In the days where inserts were rare and long before relics and autographed cards these cards commanded a little more dinero.  Overall this is one of my favorite Diamond Kings designs and a great looking card. Even if it's missing an E.

2016 Topps Series 1 Berger's Best insert

Year: 2016
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Flaghip
Card Type: Insert
Insert Set Berger's Best
Card Number: BB-26

I made a pretty big stink when this card came out earlier this year.  I was pretty dumb struck by the egregious error Topps made when referencing one of their own cards.  If your a fan of this blog or Robin Yount and his baseball cards you know that Robin's first issued card was in 1975.  The 1975 set is pretty iconic with other great rookie cards like George Brett and Gary Carter to name a few.  While it's true that Robin's rookie year was 1974 Topps also seems to think it was the year they issued his first card.

Ahem, anyway.  Seems like every year Topps also has to put out a reprint insert and Berger's Best is this year's reprint insert. At least for Series 1.  This insert also has relic, autograph and autograph relic parallels and Robin is included in all three of those sets too.

I guess I should just count my blessings they included Brewer and Robin in the set.

1988 Starting Lineup Talking Baseball

Year: 1988
Card Manufacturer: Starting Lineup
Card Set: Starting Lineup Talking Baseball
Card No.  26
Card Type: Insert

Robin's got a few Starting Lineup cards.  These cards came part of a baseball game.  There might have been extra player packs to be had too I can't remember.  I'm sure someone out there is an expert on the set and will chime in.

Robin's other Starting Lineup cards come as a bonus insert packaged with  a sports figure bearing his likeness. I do have one loose figure somewhere, but I have yet to try and pick up any of his figures still mint in package.  That's not to say I don't want to add them to the collection.  I just don't have the space to store or display them and I would rather focus my collecting money elsewhere.

This card is smaller than the standard 2x3 card size.  I think it's closer to 1935 Goudey.

The image used is also iconic.  You'll recognize it from all sorts of other oddball issues from the 80's.
