2019 Panini Prizm - Neon Orange Donut Circles Prizm

Year: 2019
Card Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Prizm
Card Number: 216
Card Type: Base Parallel
Parallel Set: Neon Orange Donut Circles
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 130/150

From my last COMC order I picked up quite a few of the 2019 Prizm parallels over that last couple years.  The last couple year's Panini has gone crazy with the base parallels with over 40, so 2019's 27 base parallels seems almost tame (not really that's still an insane amount of base parallels).  But that also means I have many, many Yount cards to chase.  Panini also likes to give some of their parallels interesting names like Forest Green Flash, Navy Blue Kaleidoscope, Cosmic Haze, etc etc.  So the Neon Orange Donut Circle Parallel kind of falls into that long weird naming convention, but actually pretty accurately describes what the parallel looks like.

I'll be honest the parallels are pretty hit or miss with me, but this parallel and it's sister parallel the Lime Green Donut Circles really pop and are hard to miss.  I've lamented over how terrible the color correction and air brushing is on Panini cards so no reason to rehash that.  I can see why NFL and NBA collectors really like Prizm though, imagine this card with correct colors and logos (chef's kiss).

2019 Topps Triple Threads Gold

Year: 2019
Card Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Triple Threads
Card Number: 30
Card Type: Base Parallel
Parallel Set: Gold
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 25/99

My most recent COMC order, 7 months in the waiting, contained almost 2 full years of card purchases.  My usual MO is I wait till COMC's big Black Friday event, buy and bunch of cards and then have my whole port shipped.  Of course with the pandemic and COMC's troubles with staffing, processing, and shipping, I held off for quite a while. Last year's Black Friday sale was also a big disappointment, mainly because of COMCs issues with processing new cards.  Usually COMC will have a big influx of new cards right before the event and while the cards might have come, many weren't processed in time for the Black Friday sale.  So that meant there was a lot of stale inventory.  And while I still came away with some nice cards I didn't spend near the amount I would have or picked up as many cards.

Ahem, rant over.  I was able to pick up a nice rainbow of flavors of Robin's 2019 Triple Threads cards. To start off here's his Gold Parallel from the set.  Honestly, except for the serial numbering on the card this looks very similar to his base card in the set.  Thankfully most of the other color parallels are easier to spot.

2019 Topps Transcendent - Franchise Favorites Sketch Card Reproduction

Year: 2019
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Transcendent
Card Number: FFR-RY
Card Type: Insert
Insert Set: Franchise Favorite Sketch Card Reproduction
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 045/100

Way back in January I requested my COMC stack and after watching an interview with COMC's CEO I realized that was the worst possible time to request shipment.  I won't bore you with the COMC rant, but 7 months later my package finally arrived.  In it I had over 160 cards and a huge stack of new in hand Yount cards.  So why not start showing those off with, what I think is, the best of the bunch.

Topps released the first Transcendent set way back in 2016 and Robin was included in the sketch card in that release.  He's had a card here and there in subsequent releases, but in 2019 he was again featured in the sketch cards and reproduction set.  The original Transcendent set was limited to just 65 cases, and every year since Topps has increased the print run.

I'm not exactly sure who did the art for this card.  I know Dan Bergen did a bunch but I think Mayumi Seto might have also contributed and maybe another artist.  I figured that info would be easy to find, but it's not.  The back of the card doesn't state the artist either.  Regardless, it's a beautiful card set in a very heavy frame.

2019 Panini Prizm Lime Green Donut Circles

Year: 2019
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Prizm
Card Type: Base Parallel
Card Number: 216
Parallel Set: Lime  Green Donut Circles
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 143/199

I did a thing last week.  I finally requested shipment of my cards from COMC.  It's been well over a year since the last time I emptied out my portfolio.  In that time I also started selling, but then the pandemic hit. Processing and shipping have both been significantly delayed for the better part of the last year, so I'm hopeful I get my cards before the April estimate, but I figured I might as well pull the trigger and get it started.  That being said there will be a lot of new Yount cards to show off.  COMC has become my primary avenue for adding new cards to the collection, but with the lower processing tier being suspended as well, the cards I want aren't being submitted.

But let's focus on the card at hand.  I'm trying to remember where I picked this one up.  I likely got this in a trade, but there is a slim possibility that it came from one of my LCSs or  a card show.  I find the names of the Prizm parallels laughable and sometimes hard to tell apart.  Maybe Panini should start printing the parallel name on the back of the card too.  This parallel is card the Lime Green Donut Circles parallel.  And there is also a Neon Orange Donut Circles.  I expect in the coming years that the Donut Circles parallels will expand exponentially to all the colors of the rainbow and 70's interior paint palate.  It is very sparkly and I'm a sucker for the shiny and sparkly.  It's also numbered to just 199 examples, so there's some rarity there as well.

2019 Panini Prizm Red, White, and Blue Prizm

Year: 2019
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Prizm
Card Number: 216
Card Type: Base Parallel
Parallel Set: Red, White, and Blue

I wish I could remember exactly where I got this bad boy.  I want to say I actually acquired it from one of my LCSs and that's probably true, but for the life of me I can't exactly remember.  Regardless, I love the look and color of this card.  Still not a fan of the crappy air brushing and color shifts that Panini has to do, but the overall look of this card is great.  That's the nice thing about Prizm there are a ton of card parallels to chase.  Or maybe that's the worst thing.  I guess it depends on your goal.  For me the best part of collecting is the chase so I like having a ton of parallels to try and track down.

I have been slowly acquiring other parallels over at COMC when I find them for a good price, but sadly they are still over there.  It's been over a year since I've had my cards portfolio emptied out.  I've been contemplating putting in an order to have my cards delivered even though shipping is way backed up, but still haven't pulled that trigger.

2019 Topps On-demand 150 Years of Professional Baseball

Year: 2019
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: On-demand 150 Years of Professional Baseball
Card Number: 130
Print Run: 815

I posted about this card when it was made available on the Topps website late last year.  Robin was in the last round of weekly offerings.  The set had a bunch of different themed sub-sets: Rookie Campaigns, Historic Moments, Artist Renditions, and Records and Award Winners.  I was hoping that Robin was going to get the Artist Rendition treatment, because Graig Kreindlers art is incredible, but I'll settle for Robin just being in the set.  Robin's card commemorates his 1982 MVP season and award.

2019 Topps Triple Threads Onyx

Year: 2019
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Triple Threads
Card Number: 30
Card Type: Base Parallel
Parallel Set: Onyx
Card Attribute: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 26/50

Whew am I glad my COMC Black Friday haul posts are done.  I ended up picking up this great 2019 Triple Threads Onyx parallel from my LCS, Bosco's.  I can't remember if I had stopped by for one of their semi-regular card shows or if it was their monthly Trade Night, but the trading card manager Moe had sent me a message on Twitter with a nice selection Brewers cards he had picked up and set aside for me.  In the batch was this card, plus the base.  I've said it many times before but it's super rare that I find new Younts locally.  But it does happen from time to time and I love it.  It seems to me that over the last couple year's almost across all of the Topps brands that Topps has made their parallels more and more subtle.  If this wasn't serial numbered to 50 on the front you might pass this off as a base card.

2019 Topps Fire Lasting Legacies Blue Chip Parallel

Year: 2019
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Fire
Card Number: LL-8
Card Type: Insert Parallel
Insert Set: Lasting Legacies
Parallel: Blue Chip

COMC Black Friday Card Haul #52

We're here finally, the last new Yount card I received from last years COMC Black Friday event.
I wish I could I saved the best of for last, but all I've got is an insert parallel.  It's not a base insert parallel, but I did already feature it's relative the Gold Minted months ago.  Interestingly enough I have yet to pick up the base version of this card.  The Topps Fire set was a retail exclusive and the Gold Minted and Blue Chips were product specific parallels.  Meaning the Gold Minted were found exclusively in Blasters and these Blue Chips were found in fat packs.  Still a great card and one of many Yount/Yelich card pairings last year.  I'm sure there will be many more to come.

Well that's it.  I'm looking forward to COMCs next big even I think that happens next month.  The Spring Cleaning sale event should net a few more new Younts for the collection and I already have a bunch sitting in my portfolio over there.

Thanks for putting up with the COMC Black Friday Haul breakdown, only took me 4 months to work through all 52 new cards.

2019 Topps Allen and Ginter Mini

Year: 2019
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Allen and Ginter
Card Number: 352
Card Type: Parallel
Parallel Set: Base Mini

COMC Black Friday Haul #50

I ended up picking up a bunch of Robin's 2019 Allen and Ginter cards last year, all of them already featured.  All that's left is Robin's base mini.  I still find Allen and Ginter to be one of my favorite Topps releases every year.  I wish I still had the disposable income to buy a couple boxes and put the set together like I use to do.  Am also glad that at least one set still has the tobacco sized minis.  Over the year's Robin has been featured in the Allen and Ginter set multiple times so it's always fun to chase down his parallel cards.

2019 Topps Series 1 150th Annivserary Commemorative Medallion

Year: 2019
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Flagship (Series 1)
Card Number: AMM-RY
Card Type: Insert, Manufactured Relic
Insert Set: 150th Anniversary Commemorative Medallion
ManuRelic Type: Medallion

COMC Black Friday Haul #48

Getting down to the bottom of the COMC Black Friday Haul barrel.  I was able to pick up two of Robin's manufactured relics from 2019 last year.  The first was the plastic patch 150th Anniversary Commemorative card and the this one.  I like these heavy metal medallions.  Sure it sucks that this counts as a hit in a hobby box, but it seems we've come to accept that as part of the hobby.  There are a couple serial numbered parallels to this set to chase.   Overall I like the card.  It's super thick and heavy.  Although I'm sure I've seen Topps use that image before.

2019 Topps 1984 35th Anniversary Tribute

Year: 2019
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Flagship (Series 1)
Card Number: T84-32
Card Type: Insert
Insert Set 1984 Topps Baseball 35th Anniversary Tribute

COMC Black Friday Haul #46

Robin has a lot of cards to chase in 2019 Topps.  One of my favorite inserts was the 1984 35th Anniversary Tribute Set.  Well at least Robin's card in the set.  A quick search on Getty Images reveals Topps used a photo from a 1980, sadly the actual date and location are not listed.  The inset photo used is from a much later date as that is most definitely Yount as the elder statesman on the team.  I've also included Robin's actual 1984 Topps card for photo comparison.  The bigger difference is on the back with the card having Robin's stats through 1993, odd for a 1984 tribute and the stats start in 1978.  But I won't complain as long as my favorite Brewer keeps getting featured in these sets it just means more to add to the collection.  Or course card also has all the color parallels and gets the chrome treatment in the Silver Packs.

2019 Topps Chrome - Greatness Returns

Year: 2019
Manufacture: Topps
Set: Topps Chrome
Card Number: GRE-9
Card Type: Insert
Insert Set: Greatness Returns

COMC Black Friday Haul #40

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, we are getting closer and closer to finishing featuring the Yount cards I picked up last year and got delivered during my COMC Black Friday haul.  These cards actually represent not only the card I picked up during the event, but had been accumulating all year long.

Next up is the Chrome version of the flagship insert, Greatness Returns.  And it seems odd to me that I should have acquired the Chrome version before the regular flagship version. A great card and one of many that featured both Robin and Christian from last year and I would bet one of many more to come.

2019 Topps Allen and Ginter X

Year: 2019
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Allen and Ginter X
Card Number: 352
Card Type: Base

COMC Black Friday Card Haul #38

With a little down time due to the Coronavirus I'm trying to get  a bunch of these Black Friday posts set up as possible.  I also realize that there are going to be a ton of 2019 cards to post about.

Next up is Robin's 2019 Allen and Ginter X card.  Topps has been doing the online A and G X for a few year's now.  I'm not a huge fan of the set.  Oh I like the look of the cards.  If this had just been a black base parallel I would have liked it just as much, but paralleling a set and repackaging it has another whole product seems to me like a big lazy cop out.  But to each their own.  I was able to snag this base card and Robin's base mini parallel, which I've already featured, during this last Black Friday event.  Nice to see Topps didn't bother fixing their numbering screw up either in this set.

2019 Topps Faces of the Franchise Black Parallel

Year: 2019
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Flagship
Card Number: FOF-16
Card Type: Insert Parallel
Insert Set: Faces of the Franchise
Parallel Set: Black
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 168/299

COMC Black Friday Card Haul #37

I've featured the base card and the blue parallel so far.  I was able to snag this black serial numbered parallel during Black Friday to add to the rainbow.  It's a great card with a great premise.  The choice of Yeli, Yount, and Fingers highlights 3 of the 4 Brewers who have won an MVP title.  Ryan Braun being the other player.  With Christian's new contract it's possible he'll retire a Brewer as well.

2019 Topps 150th Anniversary of Professional Baseball #150-138

Year: 2019
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Flagship (Series 1)
Card Number: 150-138
Card Type: Insert
Insert Set: 150 Years of Professional Baseball

COMC Black Friday Haul #36

The last post featured Robin's first card in this insert set and now it's time for the other.  The 150 Year's of Professional Baseball Series 1 insert was subdivided into 3 sub-sets, Greatest Players, Greatest Seasons, and Greatest Moments.  This card celebrates Robin's great 1982 season in which he took the Brewers to their only World Series appearance and he won his first MVP title.

2019 Topps 150th Anniversary of Professional Baseball #150-55

Year: 2019
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Flagship
Card Number: 150-55
Card Type: Insert
Insert Set: 150 years of Professional Baseball (Greatest Players)

COMC Black Friday Haul #35

Last year Topps celebrated the 150th Anniversary of professional baseball with multiple insert sets highlighting all sorts of topics.  One of the continuing inserts was the 150 Years of Professional Baseball.  Series 1 had 150 cards, Series 2 had 100 more cards, but this time broken down into the 3 separate sets, Greatest Players, Greatest Moments, and Greatest Seasons, with their own card numbers, and Update had another 100 cards featured, back in a single set.  Topps sure didn't want to make it easy.  Anyway, Robin has two cards in the set both from Series 1.  One in the Greatest Players sub-set and the other which I will feature later in the Greatest Seasons.  This card highlights his two MVP awards, 3000+ hits, etc.

2019 Topps Update Legends Variation

Year: 2019
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Topps Update
Card Number: US168
Card Type: Variation
Variation Type: Legends SP

COMC Black Friday Haul #34

We got a double dip in 2019 with Robin getting a Legends Variation in Series 2 and again in the Update series.  Topps picked another great photo to use for Robin's card.  Personally I'm a big fan of these legends variations. First there's no doubt when you pull one of these that you have something special and it's a great way to get retired and HOF players into a new set.

2019 Topps Historic Through-Lines

Year: 2019
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Flagship (Series 2)
Card Number: HTL-47
Card Type: Insert
Insert Set: Historic Through-Lines

COMC Black Friday Haul #33

Seems like a fitting card as Christian Yelich just signed a deal with the Brewers that will keep him in Blue and Gold through most of this decade.  Not only that with the emergence of Yelich's stardom he has supplanted Ryan Braun as the go to Brewers for the teams token representation in insert sets.  I'm not complaining, but I didn't want Braun to completely disappear as he pretty much has.  I find it unlikely that Braun will be a Brewer much longer, but he's still productive and an asset to the team so who knows?

The card links the two Brewers with their MVP titles.  Christian was in the running again last year until he got injured, but Bellinger more than deserved the title.

2019 Panini Prizm Base

Year: 2019
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Prizm
Card Number: 216
Card Type: Base

COMC Black Friday Haul #31

Nothing super exciting today.  Just a plain old base card.  I always thought the Prizm was Panini's answer to Topps Chrome, but in reality it's their answer to Finest.  Prizm has always felt clunky, and it still does.  I'm not sold on the over all design, but at least on this year's card the uniform colors aren't so terrible.  The one nice thing is there are a ton of parallel to chase (if you're into that) and I picked up a bunch during the Black Friday event.  Robin's card is number 216 which puts it in the Tier III category, but I'm not sure what that even means.  I would assume it has to do with rarity, but I've yet to see any good answer as to why there are three tiers in the base set and what that actually means.

2019 Topps Allen and Ginter Mini Framed Relic

Year: 2019
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Allen and Ginter
Card Number: MFR-RY
Card Type: Insert, Relic
Insert Set: Mini Framed Relics
Relic Type: Jersey
Card Attributes: Piece of Authentic Jersey

COMC Black Friday Haul #30

I realize as I'm writing up these posts that I have a ton of 2019 cards to show off from this year's COMC Black Friday Haul.  I've been trying to mix it up going back and forth, but I realize eventually there are just going to have to me a lot of 2019 card posts.  Anyway....

I picked up a lot of inserts and parallels this year, but also managed to add a few relics.  One that I was happy to snag was Robin's relic from 2019 Allen and Ginter.  I'm a big fan of the set even though I've given up trying to put the base sets together I love the vintage designs and various mini card sets.  I also love when Robin gets included in the set and this year not only did he have a base card and all the parallels that come with that, but this very handsome relic card.  I was lucky enough to get a great deal on it during the Black Friday event and this one even has a hint of color so it's not so boring.  Reminds me of the height of relic cards and how much more cards with pinstripe or other detail went for.
