1988 Topps Coin

Year: 1988
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Topps Coins
Coin Number: 32

The Topps coin brand dates way back to 1964.  Topps brought them back in 1971 and then in the late 80's for 4 more years.  The first Topps coin set was released in 1987 and the last in 1990.  You may remember that Topps also featured some buy back coin cards in the 2013 Heritage set that featured the 1964 coins.

Robin is featured in 3 of the 4 modern coin sets from 1988 to 1990.  The only Brewer who got a coin in the 1987 set was Rob Deer.

Sorry about the crappy scan, it's hard to get a good scan with the coin lip.  The coins came 3 to a pack and like everything from the late 80's were way overproduced.  You can still find boxes, packs, and whole sets for next to nothing.

1990 Bandai Brass Coin

Year: 1990
Manufacturer: Bandai
Set: Super Star Collector Coins
Coin Number: NNO

The early 1990's really had some great oddball sports collectibles.  I always remember Bandai for  their video game titles for NES.  Bandai is still around, they merged with Namco in the mid 2000's.    A neat oddball set.  Bandai produced two coin sets.  One in 1990 and a second set in 1992.  The main difference in the coins is the 1992 set has the MLB logo on the front. I ended up picking up a large lot of the Bandai coins a while back just to pick the Yount out of the set.  I still have the rest somewhere.  The coins are nice and heavy, although the plating has a tendency to rub off.  I also found some original packaging I've included images below.  I guess you got two coins per package and one of those was a mystery.  The packaging also included a punch out coin stand.

2013 Topps Update Commemorative Coin Card

Card Manufacturer: Topps
Card Set: Topps Update
Year: 2013
Card Number: PCC-RY
Card Type: Insert
Insert Set: Pennant Chase Commemorative Coin Card
Card Attributes: Coin, Serial Numbered
Serial Number:  49/99

When I saw the checklist of 2013 Topps Update I was pretty excited to see Robin had a coin card this years set
.
While I hate that Topps calls these relics they are pretty sweet cards.
I had been watching just about every one of these copper level coin cards on ebay that have been up for auction. I was biding my time.  I finally was able to snag one for a decent price.  Still it was more than I really wanted to spend on the card, but there comes a time when sellers stop putting these up for 99 cents and letting the market determine final price and just start listing them as Buy It Now with insane price tags.

I will say this it's a great card. It's super heavy. The coin is solid and the card looks amazing in hand.  There are two more levels of coin cards the Wrought Iron and Steel, numbered to 50 and 10, but I'm not really worried about them, if I can find either at a great price I'll bite, but I'm glad to have at least this great tribute in the collection now.

The theme of the Coins is Pennant Chase and this coin commemorates the 1982 World Series team that lost to the Cardinals in seven. Sadly the one and only time the team made it.
