2014 Panini 75th Anniversary Hall of Fame - Green Shield

Year: 2014

Card Number: 83
Card Type: Base Variation
Variation: Green Shield
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 05/75

COMC Black Friday Haul Part 8

Panini's 2014 HOF set is a mess.  The base cards have mulitple variations and those variations have multiple parallels that are not easy to spot.  During the 2018 Black Friday event I picked up a bunch of Robin's cards from the set.  A lot of low numbered variations and parallels.  But misses this one.  This is the Green Shield base variation.  All the base cards are numbered to only 75 copies making them hard to find and each base card has 3 variations.  I was surprised to find this during my search during this year's Black Friday event, but I'm glad to finally add it to my collections.  You can see the full checklist breakdown here.    Now the only base card I'm missing is the Blue Shield #/75, which I'm sure will turn up somewhere for a good price or trade.

2014 Panini Hall of Fame - Crusades Base Blue/Yellow

Year: 2014
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Hall of Fame
Card Number: 83
Card Type: Insert
Insert: Crusade (Base - Blue/Yellow)

It's here we finally made it the end of my COMC Black Friday delivery.  And I've not saved the best for last, but still a great looking card.  Over the last year and during COMC's Black Friday sale I was able to pick up a good amount of the 2014 Panini Hall of Fame cards I didn't have.  Picking up my first Crusade cards and a few of the low numbered base cards.  I've saved Robin's base Crusade card for last mainly because I think it looks the best.  Blue and Yellow (or Gold) are the Brewers colors and they go so well together.   In hand these Crusade cards are very pretty.  But I'm a sucker for chromy gimmicks like this.

2014 Panini Hall of Fame - Diamond Kings Blue

Year: 2014
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Hall of Fame
Card Number: 83
Card Type: Insert Parallel
Insert Set: Diamond Kings
Parallel Set: Blue
Card Attribute: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 47/50

We are getting close to the end of my COMC Black Friday deliverys.  Only one more card after this.

This is my first Diamond King out of the set.  The Blue parallel is right in the middle of rarity with the color parallels and oddly enough I still haven't found a reasonably priced unnumbered base card to add to the collection.  All of the colored parallels look really good.  I really like the looks of the green and gold parallels, but the blue really pops as well.

2014 Panini Hall of Fame Red Shield

Year: 2014
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Hall of Fame
Card Number: 83
Card Type: Base Variation
Variation: Red Shield (Frame)
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 29/75

Continuing on from my last post we have another card the 2014 Panini Hall of Fame set.  This card is the base Red Shield variation.  While the cards are all numbered to 83 the front photos are different between all three of the base variations and so are the backs.  Here we get a little older Robin.  Most of Panini's HOF cards have really nice crisp photos, not so much here.

The write ups on the back are nice and well written, but both this card and the previous one I posted lament on Yount being only 37 when he retired.  Who knows where Robin would have ended up in the record books had he played a few more years?

2014 Panini Hall of Fame - Green Shield - Red Foil Parallel

Year: 2014
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Hall of Fame
Card Number: 83
Card Type: Parallel
Parallel Set: Green Shield (Framed) Red Foil
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 44/50

We are closing in on the last of my Black Friday delivery Younts.  I think there are 3 more after this card.  The 2014 Hall of Fame set is a confusing one.  Back in 2014 I tapped the Library of Congress and the NORAD super computers to figure it out.  You can see Robin's full checklist here.

There are three base card variations.  I'm not sure which one would be considered the base card as all three base variations are numbered to 75.  They all have different photos on them and framed by either a red, blue, or green shield.  To make it even more confusing there are color variants of those each of those cards.  There there are the Crusade and Diamond King inserts (or are they parallels?) to chase.  And almost all the cards are very low numbered.

Here we have the Green Shield base card Red Foil parallel.  The red foils are the next rarest after the base cards.  Numbered to just 50 copies.  I was able to pick this card up for a very good price and that may have been helped by just how convoluted the checklist is for the set.

The last 3 cards to feature from my COMC Black Friday deliver or BFD, are also from this set.

2014 Panini Hall of Fame - Crusades Red

Year:2014
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Hall of Fame 75th Anniversary.
Card Number: 83
Card Type: Insert parallel
Insert Set: Crusade
Parallel: Red
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 49/75

Still working through all my Black Friday COMC Yount acquisitions.  I ended up snagging 4 Crusade cards from the 2014 Hall of Fame set.  Next up is the Red Parallel.  I really like how these pop with the chromium and the bright colors and the black and white photo really works for me with those bright colors.  Plus it's got lions!

2014 Panini Hall of Fame - Crusades Orange Die-Cut

Year: 2014
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Hall of Fame 75th Anniversary
Card Type: Insert Parallel
Insert Set: Crusade
Parallel: Orange Die-Cut
Card Number: 83
Card Attributes: Die-Cut, Serial Numered
Serial Number: 10/25

I was able to pick up 4 of the Crusade inserts from the 2014 Panini Hall of Fame 75th Anniversary Set.  The rarest of the four was this Orange Die-cut parallel card numbered to just 25.   While there are only 25 of these, this parallel is the most common of the die-cuts.  If you read any of my blogs you know I'm a sucker for gimmicks.  So give me a die-cut chromed out card with pretty colors and I'm all over it.  Give me a great price on it and it's coming home with me.

2014 Panini Hall of Fame - Crusades Purple

Year: 2014
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Hall of Fame 75th Anniversary
Card Number: 83
Card Type: Insert Parallel
Insert: Crusade
Parallel: Purple
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 12/50

I just got my COMC delivery earlier this week.  In the package was about 20 new Younts for my collection.  Not all of those cards were actually bought on Black Friday, but I did manage to find a few good deals.  I went on a small Yount Crusade if you will.  I ended up picking up a nice stack of 2014 Panini Hall of Fame cards including 4 Crusades.  The whole set is a complete mess with incredibly confusing parallels and variations.  I put together a checklist back when the set came out just to try and keep it straight, but it's still fairly confusing.  But the Crusade cards are pretty straight forward as far as parallels go.  There are seven Crusade cards to chase with all six color parallels being very low numbered.  I think the unnumbered base card, which will be featured in the future, is my favorite with the blue and yellow color scheme.  All the Crusade cards are of this chromey-prizmy type and really pop in hand.  They also all feature a yellow right side, so the color variation is on the left. The parallels are all serial numbered on the back and this purple variation is numbered to just 50.

2014 Panini Hall of Fame 75th Anniversary Blue Shield Red Parallel

Year: 2014
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Hall of Fame 75th Anniversary
Card Number: 83
Card Type: Base Variation Parallel
Variation Type: Blue Shield
Parallel: Red Foil
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 21/50

In the past Topps has put out some pretty interesting set configurations.  So I'll assume this is Panini's attempt not to be outdone.  I'll do my best to break down the set for you before we get to Robin's card.  The base set consisted of 100 players, each of those players had 3 base card variations all numbered to just 75.  So right there the base cards are super rare.  On top of that each of those 3 base cards had 5 color parallels (red, blue, green, gold, and black) all very low numbered.  Robin had a bunch of other insert cards in the set also very low numbered.  I have a complete checklist and some images here.

This is my first card of Robin's from the set I've been able to acquire.  This is another deal I found on COMC.   This might be the priciest of the cards I had in my last shipment, but it was still under $5.

What I have here is Robin's Blue Shield variation Red foil parallel.  The other two variations are a green shield and a red shield and they use different photos for all three cards.

Not a bad first card to add to the collection.  Overall it is what it is.  The backs look very similar to Panini's other Cooperstown offerings.  Back in October of last year I had stated that I'd like to at least get a set of the base cards.  That's proving to be a little harder than I thought.  Both from the price point and just the general availability, but that's all part of the fun of the chase.
