2012 Topps Gypsy Queen Framed Mini Relic

Year: 2012
Card Manufacturer: Topps
Card Set: Gypsy Queen
Card Number: GQMR-RY
Card Type: Insert
Insert Set: Framed Mini Relics
Relic Type: Bat
Card Attributes: Bat Relic

While Robin didn't have a base card in the 2012 Gypsy Queen set he did have two relic cards.  One full sized and this mini framed relic.  Oddly enough Topps wouldn't let this image go to waste as this was picture used for Robin's 2013 Gypsy Queen mini variation found in those little mini box toppers that Topps use to do in Gypsy Queen.  Topps would also use this image in 2013 Topps Museum Collection, Tribute, his sticker, Triple Threads, and his Five Star relic. The same image was used on his full sized relic in this set as well.

2016 Topps Gypsy Queen Mini Purple

Year: 2016
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Gypsy Queen
Card Number: 334
Card Type: Mini Parallel
Parallel Set: Mini Purple
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 061/250

Topps stopped making the mini parallels for Gypsy Queen a few year's ago.  I may be the only one who really likes the parallel in both Gypsy Queen and Allen and Ginter.  When Gypsy Queen first came out hobby boxes also featured a "box topper" mini box of exclusive mini card parallels and variations. Sadly that too is gone.  Ahem, anyway here is Robin's 2016 purple mini parallel card.  The purple isn't all that eye popping, but still a nice parallel to track down.

2011 Topps Gypsy Queen Sepia Mini Parallel

Year: 2011
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Gypsy Queen
Card Number: 61
Card Type: Mini parallel
Parallel set: Sepia
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 81/99

I'm a sucker for gimmicks.  And the gimmick I'm the biggest sucker for are the tobacco mini's.  I don't know why.  Maybe it's the homage to the birth of baseball cards and baseball card collecting.  Pacific may have been the first to put out the first tobacco sized mini insert, but it was Topps' 2002 206 set that really hooked me.  I'll be honest they are one of my favorite inserts and parallels.  And I really love it when I can chase cards with Robin on them.  In 2011, Topps decided to cash in on the retro card market it had helped pioneer by creating a new retro-vintage card set with Gypsy Queen.  Robin was include in the set, and many since, and of course that means mini parallels and parallels of those parallels.  The 2011 set was a direct homage to the original Gypsy Queen sets from the late 1800's and the sepia parallel really kind of captures that.  Sure the black border parallels look cool, but I think the sepia has a great vintage feel.

2015 Topps Gypsy Queen Mini

Card Manufacturer: Topps
Year: 2015
Card Set: Gypsy Queen
Card Number: 21
Card Type: Mini Parallel
Parallel Type: Base Mini Parallel

I'm a sucker for these mini cards.  I love'em.  Robin's been a fixture in every Gypsy Queen set since the inaugural release in 2011.  More often then not he's got a base card in the set, sometimes it's just a relic or other insert.  He's also been award a pretty prestigious honor of also being paralleled in the exclusive mini box variations that get put in hobby boxes.  This card is not one of those variations.  It's just the plain old base mini parallel.  But still a nice looking card.

2016 Topps Gypsy Queen

Year: 2016
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Gypsy Queen
Card Number: 334
Card Type: Base, SP

If memory serves me Robin has been in almost every base set of Gypsy Queen since the first issue in 2011, with the exception of one year, 2012, and he had 2 relic cards in that set.

Once again Robin graces the checklist for Gypsy Queen this time in the high numbers making his card one of those terrible manufactured short prints.  Gypsy Queen's designs have always been simple mimicking the 1887 originals, this year's no different.

2015 Topps Gypsy Queen White Framed Parallel

Card Manufacturer: Topps
Year: 2015
Card Set: Gypsy Queen
Card Number: 21
Card Type: Base Parallel
Parallel Type: White (Pearl) Paper Framed - Retail exclusive

In 2015, once again Robin was featured in the Gypsy Queen set.  If my memory serves me right he's been featured in every base set except for one year and I don't feel like digging that up.  Last year the retail exclusive borders were these White or Pearl framed cards.  Very nice to look at.  There were found as a bonus to the retail 3 pack hangers and featured 3 of these cards per hanger.  If you missed it Robin is going to be featured in the 2016 Gypsy Queen set as a high numbered SP.  Not sure if any of those cards will be framed or not and not sure of all the parallels either.  But we are only a couple days away from product launch so stay tuned I'll have a detailed checklist for Robin for the set and an image gallery.

On the Radar - 2016 Topps Gypsy Queen

Man, I've been getting blips on the screen all over the place.

The preliminary checklist for Gypsy Queen is out.  And Robin is featured in the base set as an SP.  Not sure if he gets a framed card or not, I guess we'll find out after this is released next week.  Gypsy Queen has never been one of my favorite sets, but Robin always seems to be included in the checklist or one of the inserts.  I'm also not sure right now if he gets a mini box variation this year or not.  But he does get all the parallels associated with the base set.  I'll have an official checklist and gallery post next week, but here's what I know.

Robin's card is #334 in the set.

2011 Topps Gypsy Queen Mini parallel

Year: 2011
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Gypsy Queen
Card Number: 61
Card Type: Mini Parallel
Mini Set: Base

I do love the tobacco sized mini cards.  Robin's grace the checklist of Gypsy Queen many times and he's also been lucky enough to included in the variation checklist.  This card is just the base mini parallel to the main set.  Just smaller and skinnier.  You can see his mini variation here.

2011 would be the inaugural year for Gypsy Queen a brand that is still being produced today.  It was pretty popular when it came out back in 2011.  Not one of my personal favorites, I'm more of an Allen and Ginter fan, I just love the oddball stuff Topps puts in it.  This set also had some neat relic cards featuring stamps and coins.

2015 Topps Gypsy Queen Mini Box Mini Variation

Card Manufacturer: Topps
Year: 2015
Card Set: Gypsy Queen
Card Number: 21
Card Type: Mini Box Mini Variation

This year marks the 5th year for Gypsy Queen and Robin has been featured in the base set of four of those year, 2012 was the year he wasn't although he did have relic cards in the set.  This year marks the third time that he has been featured with a mini variation card in the set as well.  These variation cards are only found in the mini boxes in hobby boxes.

The image isn't terribly over used, but just a quick look though some of his recent cards shows the image was used in last year's Supreme autograph cards and this year for his Finest Generations insert and Tier One - Clear One's autograph card.

2011 Topps Gypsy Queen Bronze Framed Parallel

Year: 2011
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Gypsy Queen
Card Number: 61
Card Type: Parallel
Parallel Set: Bronze Framed
Card Attributes: Framed, Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 362/999

The color framed parallel is nothing new.  Donruss did it way back in 2004 with Diamond Kings. And Topps brought it back with Gypsy Queen in 2011.  The interesting thing is that only a portion of the set is paralleled with the framed treatment.  Robin's been featured a few years. And of course like any parallel there are levels and exclusives.

I'm not a huge fan of gimmicks like this, but in this case it works well.  Especially for the 2011 set which mimicked the original 1887 Gypsy Queen set in design which was kind of bland.  The color and the frame add a nice, well... frame to showcase the player and make the background colors standout.

2011 Topps Gypsy Queen Mini Box Variation

Year: 2011
Card Manufacturer: Topps
Card Set: Gypsy Queen
Card Number: 61
Card Type: Mini parallel
Parallel Type: Mini box photo variation

The inaugural year of the Gypsy Queen brand.  And with a new brand came new gimmicks.  For Gypsy Queen that meant paper frame parallels, framed mini relics and full size relics, SPs, and of course a cool mini box within the main hobby box that contained mini variations and mini versions of the insert cards that you couldn't find in the regular packs.  For me the base design is way too bland and yes I know it was meant to mimic the original Gypsy Queen tobacco set.  I've never been a huge fan of Gypsy Queen mainly because I hate the manufactured short print, but everything I love about the retro Allen and Ginter isn't in this set.

That being said I do love new Yount cards and Gypsy Queen over the years has been very good to us Yount collectors in that respect.  Robin gets lots of love being placed in the mini boxes, framed parallel checklists, and usually getting relic and auto cards too.

2012 Topps Gypsy Queen Full Size Relic

Card Manufacturer: Topps
Year: 2012
Card Set: Gypsy Queen
Card Number GQR-RY
Card Type: Insert
Insert Set: Full Size Relic
Relic Type: Bat

In 2012, Robin didn't have a base card in the Gypsy Queen set.  He did, however, have two relics in the set, this full size version and a framed mini.  If this image looks familiar it's because it's one Topps has used over and over again.  Just from a quick scan through the collection this image was also used for his Gold Rings Manurelic card in Topps Series 2, it would also get heavy usage in 2013 as Robin's Gypsy Queen mini box variation image, Tribute base card image, and Triple Threads base card image.  In 2014 Topps would use it again for his Breakout Moments insert and some of his relic cards in Topps Museum Collection.

Now don't get me wrong it's a great pose, a great picture, with that classic baby powder blue uniform, but those examples up top are just what I could find from a casual search.  I had thought about compiling an image gallery of all the cards Topps used the same image for and see how many, or few, are original.  I don't know why Topps does this.  It might have to do with licensing, but I would assume a company that has been around since the 50's and was the major card producer for all of Robin's career would have image gallery so huge and enviable that they could pick a different image for Robin till the end of days.

Ahem.  I really like that his relic in this set is not super rare.  As it were around this time a bunch of Robin's relic cards, most notably those for Allen and Ginter, had very low production numbers and are hard to find and pricey.

2015 Gypsy Queen Yount Checklist

Once again Robin is featured in Topps' Gypsy Queen release.  I'd have to check, but I do believe Robin has been featured in every Gypsy Queen set. No relics or autos in this set, but he does get a base card and all those mini parallels that go with that. The framed parallel checklist hasn't been put out and since that's only a partial set parallel we'll have to see if Robin's included in that after release.

I will be adding some of these to the collection for sure, but I'll be adding as many images, especially of the rarer stuff, to this post when this goes live.

2014 Topps Gypsy Queen Younts Gallery

This year's Topps' Gypsy Queen was released this Wednesday and Robin has a base card and all the parallels that go with that and an autographed card and those parallels as well.  Robin's base card is #3 in the set and he also made the framed parallel checklist. With blue framed parallels numbered to 499 and silver framed numbered to just one and there are retail white framed cards. I'll post images of cards when I find them.
