1985 Topps Tiffany

Year: 1985
Manufacture: Topps
Set: Collector's Series "Tiffany"
Card Number: 340
Card Type: Base

Still working through my big COMC Black Friday Yount delivery and might as well continue with the Tiffanys.

1985 marked the second year that Topps put out the glossy front and better card stock set.  It also only produced half the sets it did for the inaugural run in 1984, with only 5000 sets being produced.  So in current terms not all that rare, but much more limited than the regular flagship run.

Wow those card backs are bright.

All about the Base - 1985 Topps

Year:  1985
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Flagship
Card Number: 340
Card Type: Base

Ah the mid-80's.  In 1985 the family moved to El Paso, Texas and I would spend a good part of my formative year's there.  It's also were I discovered sports cards and comic books.  Not that I didn't know they existed, but for the first time I can remember I actually cared.  But that would be another year or so.   The 1985 set marks another period in Topps history where they started playing it safe with similar, simple designs.  Again these are terrible, but they aren't all that memorable, well maybe with the exception of the 1987 set.

I've always thought the design looked like bumper stickers.  With the team name and logo plastered on the card like a kid putting a bumper sticker on a car, but with most of the card elements on the bottom of the card it leave a lot of room up top for the player photo and for me that works pretty well.  I'm not a huge fan of the color scheme on the back of the card, the red and green clash and red lettering can be a little hard to read.

But man look at the photo of Robin.  Flip up sunglasses, baby blue uni with the trucker hat and those wrist bands!!  Classic 80's, cue the Devo.

1985 APBA Game card

Year: 1985
Manufacturer: APBA
Set: APBA Baseball
Card Number: NNO
Card Type: Base, player card

The only oddball I picked up on Black Friday was this 1985 APBA Baseball players card.
Not to be confused with the American Power Boat Association, APBA stands or stood for American Professional Baseball Association.  The company which is still in business puts out all sorts of sports games and holds yearly conventions and tournaments.

This is the first APBA card I've picked up and I've never played the game.  I know it's kind of like Dungeons and Dragons for sports guys.  I also know from being part a few TTM groups on Facebook that there are a few guys that really like to send these cards our for autographs.  Personally I'm not a huge fan of cards that don't feature the players likeness and I also don't know if I've ever seen Robin referred to as Tito.  But I've had an APBA card for Robin on my personal want list for a while now and I can finally cross that off.
