2008 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes Light Blue Jersey Card

Year: 2008
Manufacturer: Upper Deck
Set: Baseball Heroes
Card Number: 99
Card Type: Parallel Relic
Parallel Set: Light Blue Jersey
Relic Type: Uniform
Card Attributes: Relic, Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 127/200

Been awhile since I posted an actual Yount card.  I've been so busy keeping up with all the new cards coming out.  Let's go back to the well that is the 2008 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes set. Unlike the 2005 version that was HOF centric and that Robin had 5 cards in, in this set Robin has only one card.  Well that and a thousand parallels.  Just kidding of course, but there are a lot.  There are 10 base card color parallels alone, and then the relics, autos and relic autos that parallel the base set.  And while Robin isn't in very possible parallel, he is in a lot of them.

I'll be honest this set just screams 2008.  Well at least the way the just parallel the base set, by punching a hole for the relic and then applying sticker autos to the card.  That being said it's an overall nice card, the background works well with the very much on display classic Brewers uni.  And we get a nice posed Robin Yount in his later years.  And of course the plain gray swatch is totally 2000s.

2008 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes Charcoal Parallel

Year: 2008
Manufacturer: Upper Deck
Set: Baseball Heroes
Card Number: 99
Card Type: Base Parallel
Parallel Set: Charcoal
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 295/399

The 2008 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes set is the poster child for parallels.  Much like the insane sets put out by Donruss earlier the set pretty much centers around the base checklist and then just parallels it to death.  There are 10 base color parallels alone for this set and then 20 auto, relic, and auto relic parallels.  Although not every player is in every parallel set.  Robin's card here is the Charcoal parallel, or gray.  Besides the coloring, which is also featured on the back, each parallel, except for the Black parallel, is serial numbered.  The Charcoal just happen to be numbered out of 399, with just the Emerald, numbered to 499, and the unnumbered Black parallels being less rare.

2005 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes #65

Year: 2005
Manufacturer: Upper Deck
Set: Baseball Heroes, Heroes
Card Number: 65
Card Type: Base

The end is here!! Well at least for my series on Robin's 2005 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes base cards.  The last of Robin's cards is one of my favorites, but I'm a sucker for art cards.  Like his Fleer Provision or Diamond Kings cards this one is pretty sweet.  Unlike his 4 other cards in the set which celebrate a single achievement this card just celebrates Robin's whole great career.

2005 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes #64

Year: 2005
Manufacturer: Upper Deck
Set: Baseball Heroes, Heroes
Card Number: 64
Card Type: Base

Still working on going though Robin's 2005 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes base cards.  Here we are on his second to last card, #64.  There are a few achievements in a baseball player's career that will almost certainly guarantee you a place in Cooperstown and Robin reach one of those on Sept 9, 1992.  I was in my first year of college in central Wisconsin and I remember the front page of both the Milwaukee Journal and Sentinel, back where they were separate papers,  had Robin on the front. As well as a huge feature in the sports section.  I know I have those in the collection somewhere, most likely buried in my parents basement somewhere.

2005 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes #63

Year: 2005
Manufacturer: Upper Deck
Set: Baseball Heroes, Heroes
Card Number: 63
Card Type: Base

Continuing our series of Robin's 2005 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes base cards we get to card #63.  Card 63 celebrates Robin's second MVP award and season in 1989.  This was a year I remember very well.  While I had gotten into baseball and baseball cards in 1987, 1989 was really the first year I followed it, and more importantly I followed the Brewers.  It's a little sad Robin had such a great season that year and still didn't make the All-Star team.

Continuing our series for Robin's 2005 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes cards we have #62.  Card 62 celebrates Robin's first and only Gold Glove Award from the 1982 season.  I don't know if the photo used could get anymore 80's.  Baby blue uniform and flip up sunglasses!

2005 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes #61

Year: 2005
Manufacturer: Upper Deck
Set: Baseball Heroes, Heroes
Card Number: 61
Card Type: Base

Upper Deck's 2005 Baseball Heroes is another one of those sets that has a little something for everybody and a lot of it.  It seems that almost every set had a rainbow of color parallels, insert, and just odd variations that really aren't that well documented.  This set also features players on multiple cards in the base set and Robin was given 5.  So much like my series with his 2008 Sterling base cards I'm going feature all of Robin's 2005 Baseball Heroes cards in a row.   Every base card in this set is paralleled by multiple color parallels and those parallels have relic, autograph, and relic autograph parallels.  That's a lot of parallels.

Ahem.  Let's get on to the post.  Robin's base cards in the set are #61-65.  Each card celebrates a different aspect of Robin's career.

Card #61 celebrates Robin's second 4 hit game in the 1982 World Series.

2005 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes #64 Red Jersey Parallel

Year: 2005
Manufacturer: Upper Deck
Set: Baseball Heroes
Card Number: 64
Card Type: Color Parallel Relic
Color Parallel: Red
Relic Type: Jersey
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered, Jersey Relic
Serial Number: 11/99

Ah 2005 the year of the parallel card.  2005 is the year that Robin had the most cards ever produced for him. According to the Trading Card Database Robin had over 1000 cards produced for him in 2005.  That's a lot of cards to chase. Donruss help with a few of their sets, but Upper Deck also put out some sets with huge amounts of inserts and variations and Baseball Heroes is one of those sets.

Robin has 5 base cards in the set, 61-65 and all the color parallels and relic and auto parallels that go with those 5 cards.  I think Robin has at least 80 cards in this set alone if not closer to 100.

I've given up trying to get all the cards from this set.  But when a nice red parallel jersey card almost falls into you lap, well I'm not going to pass it up.  I also can't believe how cheap I got this card for considering how overpriced a lot of Robin's cards seem to me these days on eBay.

But it's a really nice card with a great jersey piece.  At first glace it may just seem like a plain grey swatch, but if you look close you can see a couple stitches running through the piece.

2005 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes Blue Autograph card

Card Manufacturer: Upper Deck
Card Set: Baseball Heroes
Year: 2005
Card Number: 64
Card Type: Base Parallel
Parallel Set: Blue Autographed
Card Attributes: Autographed, Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 16/20

2005 was without a doubt the year that the parallel craze got out of control. And Topps isn't even to blame!  Donruss and Upper Deck put out sets that had so many inserts, parallels, and variations it boggles the mind.

Take the card below.  This is the Blue Autographed version of card #64. Robin has 5 base cards in the set #61-65.  That means that there are 4 more blue autographed cards numbered to 20 you could chase.  As well as autographed green, red, beige, etc.  Let's not even start talking about the relic and auto relic versions.  Whew!

Still a nice card and one of the lowest numbered autographed cards I own.  Sorry for the blurry scan, the card is encased in a protective bunker of lucite, or plastic, or whatever screwdown holders are made of.

2008 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes Charcoal Parallel

Card Manufacturer: Upper Deck
Card Set: Baseball Heroes
Year: 2008
Card Number: 99
Card Type: Base parallel
Parallel Type: Charcoal
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 295/399

This year is shaping up to be a very good year for new cards for Robin, but if I had to pick the year he had the most cards issued it would  be  2005 with  2008 coming in a distant second.  And that's simply because of parallels issued mainly by Donruss and Upper Deck.

Upper Deck issued two sets called Baseball Heroes. One in 2005 and one in 2008. Robin has 5 cards in the 2005 base set and just one in this set.  That's OK though, because chasing down and keeping track of all those cards and parallels and variations from 2005 is a lot of work.  And even with one card in the base set there are 10 color parallels to chase and those color parallels have relic, autograph, and relic autograph variations to chase as well.   Yeah that's a lot of cards.  And figuring out which card is called what is a task too. Cards with colors like emerald green, sea green, light blue, navy blue, black, charcoal, red, you get the idea.  You really need to pay attention to serial numbering.

I had thought I already had a charcoal color parallel for Robin in this set, but when I was shopping I noticed that my "charcoal" was unnumbered which actually means it's a black parallel.  Anyway the point is I was able to snag a charcoal color parallel on Black Friday to finally be able to mark that one off the list and I was also able to correct my collection list.

I can see an Ultimate Guide to 2005 and 2008 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes for Robin coming up.

I'll have to go back and double check the collection, but I think this card puts me at 7 color parallels for the set.
