2014 Panini Classics Timeless Tributes Silver

Year:  2014
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Classics Baseball
Card Number: 113
Card Type: Base Parallel
Parallel Set: Timeless Tributes Silver
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 090/149

COMC Black Friday Haul #26

I picked up some nice parallels this last card season.  One of those was this Panini Classics Time Tributes Silver parallel.  There are two other Timeless Tributes parallels the Gold and Platinum, numbered to 25 and 1, so the likelyhood of those parallel falling into the collection are slim, but I'm glad to be able to add this fairly low numbered card.  While not as terrible as some of the other cards Robin has in Panini products it's still not great.  Not so terrible that I'm not going to add this card to the collection, but still...  The airbrushing isn't huge on the card with just the batting helmet logo gone and the uniform color isn't as terrible as some of the other cards I've seen where it's recolored to a dark navy blue and almost black.  Nice little blurb on the back with career totals.

2014 Panini 75th Anniversary Hall of Fame - Green Shield

Year: 2014
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Hall of Fame 75th Anniversary
Card Number: 83
Card Type: Base Variation
Variation: Green Shield
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 05/75

COMC Black Friday Haul Part 8

Panini's 2014 HOF set is a mess.  The base cards have mulitple variations and those variations have multiple parallels that are not easy to spot.  During the 2018 Black Friday event I picked up a bunch of Robin's cards from the set.  A lot of low numbered variations and parallels.  But misses this one.  This is the Green Shield base variation.  All the base cards are numbered to only 75 copies making them hard to find and each base card has 3 variations.  I was surprised to find this during my search during this year's Black Friday event, but I'm glad to finally add it to my collections.  You can see the full checklist breakdown here.    Now the only base card I'm missing is the Blue Shield #/75, which I'm sure will turn up somewhere for a good price or trade.

2014 Panini Hall of Fame - Crusades Base Blue/Yellow

Year: 2014
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Hall of Fame
Card Number: 83
Card Type: Insert
Insert: Crusade (Base - Blue/Yellow)

It's here we finally made it the end of my COMC Black Friday delivery.  And I've not saved the best for last, but still a great looking card.  Over the last year and during COMC's Black Friday sale I was able to pick up a good amount of the 2014 Panini Hall of Fame cards I didn't have.  Picking up my first Crusade cards and a few of the low numbered base cards.  I've saved Robin's base Crusade card for last mainly because I think it looks the best.  Blue and Yellow (or Gold) are the Brewers colors and they go so well together.   In hand these Crusade cards are very pretty.  But I'm a sucker for chromy gimmicks like this.

2014 Panini Hall of Fame - Diamond Kings Blue

Year: 2014
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Hall of Fame
Card Number: 83
Card Type: Insert Parallel
Insert Set: Diamond Kings
Parallel Set: Blue
Card Attribute: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 47/50

We are getting close to the end of my COMC Black Friday deliverys.  Only one more card after this.

This is my first Diamond King out of the set.  The Blue parallel is right in the middle of rarity with the color parallels and oddly enough I still haven't found a reasonably priced unnumbered base card to add to the collection.  All of the colored parallels look really good.  I really like the looks of the green and gold parallels, but the blue really pops as well.

2014 Panini Hall of Fame Red Shield

Year: 2014
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Hall of Fame
Card Number: 83
Card Type: Base Variation
Variation: Red Shield (Frame)
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 29/75

Continuing on from my last post we have another card the 2014 Panini Hall of Fame set.  This card is the base Red Shield variation.  While the cards are all numbered to 83 the front photos are different between all three of the base variations and so are the backs.  Here we get a little older Robin.  Most of Panini's HOF cards have really nice crisp photos, not so much here.

The write ups on the back are nice and well written, but both this card and the previous one I posted lament on Yount being only 37 when he retired.  Who knows where Robin would have ended up in the record books had he played a few more years?

2014 Panini Hall of Fame - Green Shield - Red Foil Parallel

Year: 2014
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Hall of Fame
Card Number: 83
Card Type: Parallel
Parallel Set: Green Shield (Framed) Red Foil
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 44/50

We are closing in on the last of my Black Friday delivery Younts.  I think there are 3 more after this card.  The 2014 Hall of Fame set is a confusing one.  Back in 2014 I tapped the Library of Congress and the NORAD super computers to figure it out.  You can see Robin's full checklist here.

There are three base card variations.  I'm not sure which one would be considered the base card as all three base variations are numbered to 75.  They all have different photos on them and framed by either a red, blue, or green shield.  To make it even more confusing there are color variants of those each of those cards.  There there are the Crusade and Diamond King inserts (or are they parallels?) to chase.  And almost all the cards are very low numbered.

Here we have the Green Shield base card Red Foil parallel.  The red foils are the next rarest after the base cards.  Numbered to just 50 copies.  I was able to pick this card up for a very good price and that may have been helped by just how convoluted the checklist is for the set.

The last 3 cards to feature from my COMC Black Friday deliver or BFD, are also from this set.

2014 Panini Hall of Fame - Crusades Red

Year:2014
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Hall of Fame 75th Anniversary.
Card Number: 83
Card Type: Insert parallel
Insert Set: Crusade
Parallel: Red
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 49/75

Still working through all my Black Friday COMC Yount acquisitions.  I ended up snagging 4 Crusade cards from the 2014 Hall of Fame set.  Next up is the Red Parallel.  I really like how these pop with the chromium and the bright colors and the black and white photo really works for me with those bright colors.  Plus it's got lions!

2014 Panini Hall of Fame - Crusades Orange Die-Cut

Year: 2014
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Hall of Fame 75th Anniversary
Card Type: Insert Parallel
Insert Set: Crusade
Parallel: Orange Die-Cut
Card Number: 83
Card Attributes: Die-Cut, Serial Numered
Serial Number: 10/25

I was able to pick up 4 of the Crusade inserts from the 2014 Panini Hall of Fame 75th Anniversary Set.  The rarest of the four was this Orange Die-cut parallel card numbered to just 25.   While there are only 25 of these, this parallel is the most common of the die-cuts.  If you read any of my blogs you know I'm a sucker for gimmicks.  So give me a die-cut chromed out card with pretty colors and I'm all over it.  Give me a great price on it and it's coming home with me.

2014 Panini Hall of Fame - Crusades Purple

Year: 2014
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Hall of Fame 75th Anniversary
Card Number: 83
Card Type: Insert Parallel
Insert: Crusade
Parallel: Purple
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 12/50

I just got my COMC delivery earlier this week.  In the package was about 20 new Younts for my collection.  Not all of those cards were actually bought on Black Friday, but I did manage to find a few good deals.  I went on a small Yount Crusade if you will.  I ended up picking up a nice stack of 2014 Panini Hall of Fame cards including 4 Crusades.  The whole set is a complete mess with incredibly confusing parallels and variations.  I put together a checklist back when the set came out just to try and keep it straight, but it's still fairly confusing.  But the Crusade cards are pretty straight forward as far as parallels go.  There are seven Crusade cards to chase with all six color parallels being very low numbered.  I think the unnumbered base card, which will be featured in the future, is my favorite with the blue and yellow color scheme.  All the Crusade cards are of this chromey-prizmy type and really pop in hand.  They also all feature a yellow right side, so the color variation is on the left. The parallels are all serial numbered on the back and this purple variation is numbered to just 50.

2014 Topps High Tek Spiral Variation

Year: 2014
Card Manufacturer: Topps
Card Set: High Tek
Card Number: HT-RY
Card Type: Base Variation
Variation: Spirals

I was digging around my draft posts  (I have a ton of cards scanned) and was surprised I still had one Topp Tek pattern variations I hadn't posted.  I'm still missing a couple variations in the middle of rarity, but I'm happy the two rarest variations are already in my collection.  That said the Spiral variation is not rare.  It's the second most common behind the base pattern.  I love that Robin was included in the inaugural relaunch of the brand.  I was a little disappointed how half-assed Topps was about it though. No pattern designation on the back and all the base cards are lettered instead of numbered.  Not only that but even the autograph cards aren't noted on the card labeling.  But I'm still a sucker for acetate.

2014 Topps High Tek Disco Refractor

Year: 2014
Manufacturer: Topps
Card Set: High Tek
Card Number: HT-RY
Card Type: Diffractor Parallel
Parallel Set: Disco Diffractor
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 18/50

We are on card 3 or 8 from the Black Friday haul over at COMC.  I picked this card up for a ridiculously low price which made me very happy.  When the set came out last year I jump early at the rarest of the base parallel variations, but really didn't bother with the diffractors or autographs because they were going for well more than I wanted to drop.  But a little patience pays off.  I recently picked up the Gold Diffractor, also off of COMC, a while back.  And now the next rarest diffractor falls into the collection.  The base cards from this set look great in hand and I have to say the diffractors do too.  I'm a little surprised how well this card scanned.  You can really see the detail of the shards that make the diffractor.  I was little bummed Robin wasn't featured in this year's set as well and even more bummed not a single Brewer made the set.  Well that saved me money anyways.

2014 Topps Triple Threads Onyx

Year: 2014
Card Manufacturer: Topps
Card Set: Triple Threads
Card Number: 21
Card Type: Base Parallel
Parallel Set: Onyx
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number:10/50

Another card picked up from COMC.  And again I was lucky enough to find a sweet deal on this guy.
I'm slowly acquiring most of the color parallels of Robin's from last years Triple Threads.   There was a time where I actively went after as many of the parallels as possible, but now I'm more of a sit and wait kind of collector.  And when a deal comes along I snag it.  So the Onyx parallel comes into the collection.  I was a little disappointed that Robin wasn't in this year's Triple Threads base set, but at least he does have a few relic cards.

2014 Topps Museum Collection Green Parallel

Card Manufacturer: Topps
Card Set: Museum Collection
Year: 2014
Card Number: 67
Card Type: Base Color Parallel
Parallel: Emerald
Card Attributes: Serial numbered
Serial Number: 051/199

For how silly it seems to chase after cards who's only attribute is that they have a different border color and are serial numbered I am glad they exist.  For me I love that fact that I'll always have cards to chase.  My player collection of Robin is not about seeing an end point, ever.  I don't want to be done collecting his cards.  I always get excited when a new set that potentially will have cards with his likeness comes out.  I scour the checklists looking to see if there are new Younts to chase and catalog.

Robin really missed the whole insert and parallel craze that started in the mid-nineties since he retired in 1993.  And the Brewers were an absolutely terrible team during that time with no real superstars in the line up so they got overlooked and underrepresented.  So for me seeing Robin included in sets like Museum Collection and having a base card and all those silly color parallels is a treat for me.  Many of the really low numbered cards can get pricey, but chasing cards like this Emerald parallel numbered to only 199 are affordable and usually pretty easy to acquire.

2014 Topps High Tek Gold Diffractor

Year: 2014
Card Manufacturer: Topps
Set: High Tek
Card Number: HT-RY
Card Type: Base Parallel
Parallel Set: Gold Diffractor
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 89/99

Another deal I got from COMC.  I was really glad I had a little credit sitting in my account when the seller put this up with a ridiculously low price.  The least rare of the diffractors the card looks great in hand and even scans pretty decent.

2014 Panini Hall of Fame 75th Anniversary Blue Shield Red Parallel

Year: 2014
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Hall of Fame 75th Anniversary
Card Number: 83
Card Type: Base Variation Parallel
Variation Type: Blue Shield
Parallel: Red Foil
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 21/50

In the past Topps has put out some pretty interesting set configurations.  So I'll assume this is Panini's attempt not to be outdone.  I'll do my best to break down the set for you before we get to Robin's card.  The base set consisted of 100 players, each of those players had 3 base card variations all numbered to just 75.  So right there the base cards are super rare.  On top of that each of those 3 base cards had 5 color parallels (red, blue, green, gold, and black) all very low numbered.  Robin had a bunch of other insert cards in the set also very low numbered.  I have a complete checklist and some images here.

This is my first card of Robin's from the set I've been able to acquire.  This is another deal I found on COMC.   This might be the priciest of the cards I had in my last shipment, but it was still under $5.

What I have here is Robin's Blue Shield variation Red foil parallel.  The other two variations are a green shield and a red shield and they use different photos for all three cards.

Not a bad first card to add to the collection.  Overall it is what it is.  The backs look very similar to Panini's other Cooperstown offerings.  Back in October of last year I had stated that I'd like to at least get a set of the base cards.  That's proving to be a little harder than I thought.  Both from the price point and just the general availability, but that's all part of the fun of the chase.

2014 Topps High Tek Base Wave Pattern

Year: 2014
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: High Tek
Card Number: HT-RY
Card Type: Base
Design: Wave Pattern

It's taken awhile, but I finally have Robin's base card in last year's Topps High Tek.  For a refresher the set consisted of 12 variations, 6 for the National League, and 6 for the American League.  This wave pattern is the base card for the American League set.  There were also diffractor parallels and diffractor autograph cards in the set, but they only paralleled this design.  This card comes by the way of COMC.  I've been slowly completing their challenges and building up store credit.  And slowly acquiring cards.  I've bitched about how deals are hard to find on the site now, but every now and then I was able to score some great cards at a great price.  This was one of those cards.  I ended up finally building up enough credit to pay for postage and decided the time was right to ship.  In all I had 10 cards shipped, 9 Younts and 1 Frank Thomas.  I'll be posting those Younts in the future.

I'm glad I can finally add this guy to the collection.  I already picked up the two rarest variations last year so now it's just filling in holes.

2014 Topps Triple Threads Emerald Parallel

Card Manufacturer: Topps
Card Set: Triple Threads
Year: 2014
Card Number: 21
Card Type: Base Color Parallel
Parallel Type: Emerald
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 233/250

Something Green!  I do believe this was another Black Friday pick up last year.  I find myself less and less interested in chasing down parallels, but if I can find one cheap that I don't have I'll never say no.

Pretty typical Triple Threads design with the player cropped and featured.  I do like the way that it looks like Robin is bursting out of the card with the foil border being interrupted.  Still looks nice and that's kind of the point with Triple Threads and the other high end Topps products.  Even the base cards are meant to be centerpieces even if they are just product filler.

2014 Topps Tribute Base card

Card Manufactuer: Topps
Card Set: Topps Tribute
Year: 2014
Card Number: 39
Card Type: Base

Yeah I know another 2014 card.  I'm trying to finish off last years cards, at least the base ones.

Robin's been featured in many years of Tribute.  Not every year, but a lot of them.  Topps has been putting out the Tribute brand since 2001, with a few breaks in the mid-2000's..

I like the overall art deco design.  I also like the no border look and the large photo.  I'm a little disappointed that Topps decided to recycle another pretty heavily used image of Robin.  This photo was taken in 1988.  We can date the photo thanks to the H/K patch on the sleeve that honors the late Brewers manager Harvey Kuenn.  As usual there are all the color parallels you'd expect and Robin also has a bunch of relics and autos in this set.

The back of the card is almost a desert. While I like the roominess of the front of the card that didn't need to be carried over to the back.  You get 4 bulleted highlights and no stats.  Just seems like a lot of empty space back there.

2014 Topps Triple Threads Base card

Card Manufacturer: Topps
Card Set: Triple Threads
Year: 2014
Card Number: 21
Card Type: Base

If there's one thing I can count on as a Yount collector it's that Topps Triple Threads will feature Robin.  I'd have to go do the research, but I'm pretty sure he's been featured almost every year since the brand came out.  In the early years of the product the base cards were numbered just like all the other parallels to around 1350 copies.  I'm not sure if that print run still holds true now that Topps doesn't number the base cards.

The other thing you can count on is that the relic and autos will look almost identical from year to year, but at least the base cards change.  The 2014 design is similar to past designs and keeps the formula up.  Like years past the set features the player more than the game.  Cropping out the player to be prominently displayed in a frame.  Robin's card isn't very colorful, with the only real popping color coming from the mustard yellow nameplate and the blue from his uniform.  I do like the foil framing goes behind Robin making it look like he's coming out of the card.  Over all a pretty typical Triple Threads card and that's not a bad thing, a well designed card with foil accents and the player featured prominently.  The back has the usual three (triple) facts, I'll have to make a note to find Robin's other Triple Thread cards and compare backs just to see how much of the info is recycled.

2014 Panini Classics

Card Manufacturer: Panini
Card Set: Classics
Year: 2014
Card Number: 113
Card Type: Base

Panini revived the Classics line this year.  In years past it was probably one of my favorite sets from Donruss, with a great checklist and some pretty awesome hits.  And while the checklist and the hits are pretty nice this year the lack of logos does drag this issue down a bit.

This card also has 3 parallels, silver, gold and platinum and there is a auto relic version too.

Robin also has a bunch of low numbered auto relics in this set. But thank goodness that he also has a cheap run of the mill base card.  The overall design is ok, but it just seems like there's a ton of wasted space on the front of the card.
