Next up we have this beautiful 2020 Topps Turkey Red Chrome card from Series 2.  The Turkey Red inserts were retail exclusives and I can't remember if the chrome versions were specific to the blasters, hanger boxes or fat packs.  I was very pleased to see Robin included in the Series 2 checklist.

A brief history of the Turkey Red brand.  Originally a tobacco premium cabinet cards available from the American Tobacco Company and are given the designation T3 in the American Standard Catalog.  Topps released it's first Turkey Red homage set in 2005, basically as a follow up to it's T205 and T206 homage releases and just before the inaugural Allen and Ginter Set in 2006.  Topps would release 3 Turkey Red sets in 2005, 2006 and 2007.  Topps then released two Turkey Red inserts sets in 2009 and 2010 flagship and then  followed that up with an online exclusive sets in 2013 and 2014, till we get to 2020 where once again Topps brings back the Turkey Red brand as an insert, whew.  

I have to say I'm pretty smitten with this card.  The base card is ok, but the chrome treatment really makes this card pop.  The halo around the player makes stand out and of course the card is very shiny!

There are 3 very limited parallels for this card, Blue (#/50), Green (#/10) and a 1 of 1 Superfractor.

Continuing my posts about my recent COMC delivery, let's go back a few year's to the age of insane set parallels.  While 2005 might be the peak of crazy, parallel heavy sets, 2004 gives it a good run.  And the 2004 Classics set is a great example.  It's also a great set if you collect HOF players as they are crammed into this set and Robin is no exception.  Just looking at the checklist for this set, Robin and Paul Molitor are all over this set, various insert sets and parallels.

One of the odder and rarer of the inserts is this Legendary Jackets insert.  All the Legendary inserts look similar with this basic design.  The Legendary Jackets set has a base run of only 50 cards and features 60 HOFers.  There is a relic version of this card, but that set only features 6 players out of the base set and Robin isn't one of them.  Overall this insert and it's cousins look like a lot of inserts there were designed to also be used in the relic, autograph, and auto relic parallels.  And too be honest the insert feels clunky and pointless.  The blurb on the back doesn't help define what Donruss was trying to do with this set, but the overall goal I think was to be able to put out different kinds of relics, this one featuring bits of player worn jackets, but with a relic run only covering 10% of the base checklist it seems almost pointless.  But that seems to sum up a lot of the inserts from this time frame.

My most recent COMC order, 7 months in the waiting, contained almost 2 full years of card purchases.  My usual MO is I wait till COMC's big Black Friday event, buy and bunch of cards and then have my whole port shipped.  Of course with the pandemic and COMC's troubles with staffing, processing, and shipping, I held off for quite a while. Last year's Black Friday sale was also a big disappointment, mainly because of COMCs issues with processing new cards.  Usually COMC will have a big influx of new cards right before the event and while the cards might have come, many weren't processed in time for the Black Friday sale.  So that meant there was a lot of stale inventory.  And while I still came away with some nice cards I didn't spend near the amount I would have or picked up as many cards.

Ahem, rant over.  I was able to pick up a nice rainbow of flavors of Robin's 2019 Triple Threads cards. To start off here's his Gold Parallel from the set.  Honestly, except for the serial numbering on the card this looks very similar to his base card in the set.  Thankfully most of the other color parallels are easier to spot.

Continuing through my stack of new Yount cards from my recent COMC delivery.  Next up we have Robin's Red Framed All Time Diamond Kings insert card from 2020 Diamond Kings.  If the image looks familiar it's because it's the same one featured from the last card I posted about his 2020 Donruss card.  I'll be honest this card does not flow well.  The yellow background and red border clash terribly.  But I do like the effect the raised frame gives to the card.   

And like most Panini products the back features a small canned blurb, but not much else.

 

On the Radar - 2021 Panini Immaculate Collection

 Robin has a few cards to chase all very low numbered even the base relic cards.  I'll update card numbering when I can and add imagery as stuff starts popping up.

Nothing says Panini more than that big blue helmet without a logo.  That being said this Holo Orange prizm is nice and sparkly (which doesn't come out in the scan).  The thing that makes me giggle them most is the small blurb on the back talking about Robin's bobblehead giveway from 2014.

Way back in January I requested my COMC stack and after watching an interview with COMC's CEO I realized that was the worst possible time to request shipment.  I won't bore you with the COMC rant, but 7 months later my package finally arrived.  In it I had over 160 cards and a huge stack of new in hand Yount cards.  So why not start showing those off with, what I think is, the best of the bunch.

Topps released the first Transcendent set way back in 2016 and Robin was included in the sketch card in that release.  He's had a card here and there in subsequent releases, but in 2019 he was again featured in the sketch cards and reproduction set.  The original Transcendent set was limited to just 65 cases, and every year since Topps has increased the print run.  

I'm not exactly sure who did the art for this card.  I know Dan Bergen did a bunch but I think Mayumi Seto might have also contributed and maybe another artist.  I figured that info would be easy to find, but it's not.  The back of the card doesn't state the artist either.  Regardless, it's a beautiful card set in a very heavy frame.

 

2005 Donruss Throwback Threads Polo Grounds Long Fly to Right Field Out - Strike

2005, as I seem to say again and again, currently holds the record for the year with the most cards produced for Robin.  And it's cards like this one that are the reason.  This Polo Grounds game insert, pays homage to the 1914 Polo Grounds game cards. This set has 45 parallels total, with the highest serial numbered to just 85.  This card is part of the Strike Long Fly out numbered to 50 parallel.  I can remember when these came out and chasing a few of the parallels.  Nowadays these are pretty easy to find even if they are very low numbered.  While some of the really low numbered cards can set you back most of these can be had relatively cheap, relatively.

On the Radar - 2021 Topps Allen and Ginter Yount Checklist

 Even though as I write this the checklist for this year's Allen and Ginter has yet to be released I was able to confirm from ebay listings that Robin has a card in this year's set.  It's #22.  Now whether or not he has any other cards, like relics, autos, or inserts, will likely have to wait till the official checklist is released, but I can at least start making the checklist knowing that he has a base cards.  I'll update this list when the full checklist comes out and add images as they pop up.

2021 Panini Prizm Baseball Ultimate Robin Yount Checklist

 Well Robin is once again featured as a throwback player in this year's Prizm release.  And this year there are 42 parallels to chase, which is 6 more than last year and 15 more than 2 years ago.  At this rate will have over 60 parallels next year.  That's a little crazy.  But I would be lying if I wasn't excited at the prospect of having all those new Younts to hunt down.
