Chasing History trifecta

Well the year is still fairly young and I've picked up all the new 2013 Younts.  Finally.

I already featured Robin's Silver Slugger Award card, and if Topps continues its Trophy cards into Series 2 and Update I'm sure we'll see at least one MVP card for him as well.  

Robin is in the Chasing History set has card #CH-34.

This insert also has Autograph and relic versions for some of the cards, Robin doesn't have any of those.  He does have two retail foil parallels of this card though and I was able to pick both of them up relatively cheap.

The first is what has been call the Silver or White Foil parallel.  

From the scan you really can't tell that it's all that much different from the base card.  But in hand it's very shiny.

Next up we have the Gold foil parallel card.

It has nice gold foil and the banner is gold as well.  It is also very shiny.  I've seen the the new 2013 Panini National Treasures has quite a few premium Yount cards in it.  I'll be featuring a few that I know I'll never own, but there are a couple I'll at least try and snag.

2013 Yount Silver Slugger Award card.

Every year I get pretty excited about the possibility of growing the Yount collection with new cards.  I've got most of Robin's base cards from his playing days, so when new cards come out I'm always eager to be able to add something new.

This year in 2013 Topps Series 1 Robin has a few cards to chase, 4 so far by my count and I have already secured most of these.  I'll post about his Chasing History cards when I get the other two parallels in my grubby little hands.  But he also has a card in the Silver Slugger Manu-relic set.

And this card is pretty sweet.  It's also very heavy and very thick!

The scans really don't do the card justice and for a manufactured relic it's pretty sweet. Kind of like those manufactured bat barrels from a few years ago.

2013 Allen and Ginter Yount card!

Just a heads up for any Yountophiles like myself. I was looking through the 2013 Topps' Allen and Ginter checklist and noticed that Mr. Yount will be featured on his own relic card in the set.  At least tentatively.  I'm not sure if he's just in one of the mini framed retired stars or will have a regular sized one as well like in last years Gypsy Queen.

I didn't see him on the regular checklist though and that's disappointing.  It would be nice to get Robin on at least one base A&G card one of these days.

Cooperstown Collection

Been slow in the new Yount catagory most of the year. But Panini's Cooperstown Collection had quite a few Younts or at least Yount featured cards.  Robin has a base card in the set and that set also has a Crystal parallel numbered to just 299.

I was finally able to find a nice cheap copy of the crystal parallel and luckily it came with the base as well.

The scan really doens't do the crystal parallel justice.  It looks like the cracked ice parallels Topps put out this year. The numbering is on the front if you can make it out on the right hand side there.  Panini did a lot of close cropping in the set so it didn't have to airbrush hats or uniforms.

The set also feature a few other inserts that Robin has a card for.  I haven't gotten my hands on any of those and there is also a Autographed card #d to 100 to find as well.

Eating on the Yount

Sorry for the lag in posts.  When I dug out the can's and cups for my last post I also found a few other things I had kinda forgot I had.  One of those things was this great 1983 McDonalds Milwaukee Brewers Placemat.  These were offered in restaurants around Wisconsin in 1983 after the Brewers 1982 American League Championship and only World Series appearance to help support the Ronald McDonald House.  There are at least 6 placemats in the set.  When I won the Yount placemat the seller was nice enough to throw in a second one for free.

Sorry about the bad scanning.  The placemats measure about 11x17 and I have a large format scanner, but these are just a little bigger than it can handle.  A really cool odd ball and I've been toying with picking up the full set.  Or at least the Rollie one for the Rollie Fingers collection.

Drinking with Yount

When I seriously started collecting Robin Yount stuff I decided not to limit myself to just baseball cards. So I have quite an eclectic collection of different stuff featuring his likeness.  Some of the neater stuff has been the drink ware.

First will go back to 1977.  RC cola feature all sorts of players on its cans in 1977 and 1978.  I'm still looking to pick up a cheap Rollie Fingers can. A heavy duty steel can, back when you could kill a man with a soda can.

7-11 featured ball players and other athletes on its Slurpee cups from the early seventies through the eighties.

1982 McDonalds put out a set of 6 Brewers Glasses in the greater Milwaukee area.  In my quick online search I really didn't find much out about the set.  But each glass features 2 players.

Yount shares his glass with Ben Oglivie.

I'm not sure if these came out before or after the Brewers won the AL championship.

Next we have the 1992 commemorative 3000th hit Coke Can.  Who ever saved this can wanted it to be closed on top so they punched two holes in the bottom to drain the soda.

And finally maybe just a cup of coffee.
I never have been able to find any really good information on these cups.

I know that there are at least 6 from searching on ebay
George Bamberger who managed the team from 1978 -1980 and 85-86.  I do believe these might be from the earlier tenure, but I'm not sure. Players also featured include:
Jim Gantner
Rollie Fingers (which I still want one of)
Paul Molitor and
Cecil Cooper
I'm not sure if they came out at the same time, where giveaways at the stadium, a mail in, or something else. I think I'm going to have to email Bob Lemke. There are some design differences between the cups as well.

There's a nice faxsimile autograph on the side of the cup.

2012 Golden Moment

Wow has it really been 2 months already since I last posted here. Yikes.  Well it's been slow in the Yount acquisition department and I've been hella busy with work.  But I'm happy to see that Mr. Yount has a base insert in this years update set.  And I'm even happier I pulled one from my hobby box.

He doesn't have any auto or relic variations of this card, which I guess is good I don't have to chase those down.  And even if it is a fairly common insert it's still a great addition to the ever growing, all be it slowly, collection.  I'll have to dig some Younts out of the vault for a few more posts.
