I'm a sucker for gimmicks and for the most part that means I have no problem with Topps manufactured relics craze.  I do take issue that these count as hits in products, but that's another rant for another day.  I've been waiting to pick up one of these 2018 Commemorative All-Star "Patches" cards for awhile.  I put the patches in quotes as this is not what I would really call a patch, it's more of a plastic or rubberized disc, but I digress.  I do find it a little amusing that I ended up picking up the black parallel version and have still yet to find a base version in my price range.  But the black parallel really does look good.

OK here's my problem with Archives. Or rather here's my problem with Robin's cards in Archives.  The 2018 base set had three designs, 1959, 1977, and 1981 Topps.  Robin was actually featured in 2 of those sets, so why couldn't he have been featured in the 1959 design for Archives?  I mean I like the photo used and I don't hate the 1977 design, but I've got Robin's real 1977 Topps card no need to reimagine it.  Ahem yeah I'm a little cranky this morning.  Anyways the purple parallels are numbered to just 175 copies and look very nice in hand.  I'm a sucker for the purple cards.

Still working through the last of my big COMC Black Friday haul.  Got a little sidetracked with a doosey of a cold, but I'm back.  Here's the most modern card I picked up from COMC.  It's Robin's Topps Rookie History reprint card from 2018 Archives.  No surprise Robin has another rookie reprint card in this year's Topps Series 1.  One of these days I'm going to take the time and figure out how many times Topps as issued a reprint of some sort for Robin's rookie card.  The cards are not numbered in the set, rather they have the original card numbering from whatever set they were originally issued in.  Other than the obvious foil stamp on the front, the Topps Reprint on the bottom of the back and the current copyright information, it's basically an exact replica.  These cards did come with color foil variations, some of them serial numbered.

2018 Topps Transcendent Yount Checklist

Robin was featured in the art card checklist in the inaugural 2016 set.  This year Robin has one card, literally one card in 2018 Topps Transcendent set.  I'll add an image of it if it ever sees the light of day.

2018 Topps Dynasty Robin Yount Checklist and Gallery

Robin is featured in this year's Dynasty product.  Robin is listed on the autograph relic checklist.  In total he has 16 total cards to be found.  The base auto relic numbered to 10, a parallel numbered to 5 and a 1 of 1.  Topps checklist does not have card designations on them, but I'll add the "numbering" when and if cards start showing up.  The two parallels look to be blue #/5 and a gold #/1 from the mock ups.

Edit 12/7/18 - with the first Yount listed on ebay Robin as at least 2 cards in the set, as more come to the market I'll update the checklist if needed.

Lately I've been incredibly selective when it comes to what I'm spending my collecting money on.  I'll be honest I'm kind of done with eBay, both buying and selling.  But every now and then I do find a great deal or score a great card at a great price.  I ended up picking this card up back in early November and took it home for less than $6 delivered.  I have a hard time paying up for Panini products, but winning the card for less than the cost of shipping was pretty sweet.  And adding a low numbered relic from one of Panini's premium brands is always a boon for me.  It's not my favorite card. Maybe it's the airbrushed out logos and off color uniforms are starting to get to me.  But a Yount card is a Yount card and they'll always have a place in the collection.

2018 Panini Flawless Baseball Robin Yount Checklist

Robin has a few cards in Panini's high end release, seriously 17 total cards.  I'm sure card numbering is not right, that's pretty usual for Panini checklists, I'll correct the card designations when stuff starts showing up and I can verify.

Want to know something crazy?  This is the first 2018 card featuring Robin Yount I've picked up this year. Sure I already featured his 2018 New Era card, but this card was the first to arrive and it came via a trade with Julie over at A Cracked Bat. 

This also happens to be Robin's first and only base card this year.  Most of the cards issued for Robin have been low numbered autograph, relic, and auto relics from the high end products so it's nice that there's a easy card to add to the collection and of course parallels to chase.  It should be noted that Topps has only released the retail part of Archives and delayed the hobby release till sometime this month, but Topps has yet to confirm a release date.  Robin also has an card in the Rookie Card History insert set with multiple parallels as well.  You can see his whole checklist here.

2018 Topps New Era 1983 35th Anniversary Insert

I posted about this card in early August and since then have been trying to snag one at a good price ever since. I finally pulled the trigger last week and picked up this card for $8 shipped. A little more than I wanted to pay for it, but that was the best price I've seen since they started showing up on ebay.  For those that don't know this card is an insert to the New Era hat promotion.  The only way to get a pack of cards was to buy a New Era hat from a select MLB stadium store.  And the fact that these cards are inserts to the base set make them a little harder to find.  The main reason I pulled the trigger was I've only seen a handful of listings for these cards and I was worried they would eventually disappear.  Not knowing the print run and scarcity I figured I better jump on one. 

I was hoping Robin would show up in the flagship insert, but so far no luck, but Update is coming out in a couple weeks.  A few differences between this card and the flagship 83 Anniversary insert.  First is the numbering on the back of the card.  These cards have the T83-# designation were the flagship set only has 83-#.  Also the anniversary logo on the front of the card is not foil, it's printed as part of the card.  As a matter of fact there's not an ounce of foil anywhere on these.  It would have been nice if there was a small New Era logo somewhere on the card to denote the set.  Overall it's a great looking card with great colors and beautiful photos.  It really looks great in hand.  As far as oddball and promotional cards go I have no idea how rare these actually are or will become, but if you have a player in the set you collect I'd say pick one up sooner than later.

2018 Topps Archives Robin Yount Checklist and Gallery

I'm not sure but I think this is the first base card that Robin has this year.  And of course a couple inserts.  I'll add images as I find them.  Retail hits 8/14/18, but Hobby was pushed back to September.  That'll be interesting to see what kind of interest there is in the Hobby product with a retail version having already been out a month, but maybe there will be some hobby exclusive goodies that will make it worth it.
