1990 Holsum Bread Disc

Card Manufacturer: MSA/Holsum
Card Set: Holsum Superstars Discs
Year: 1990
Card Number: 7

Keeping with the round theme...

Holsum issued a series of baseball discs for three years, 1989, 1990, and 1991. But Holsum's relationship with baseball goes back to the 1920's and the D327 set and Holsum also has issued a couple Football sets.

Robin only appears in the 1990 disc set of Superstars.

1986 Jays Potato Chips Disc

Jays has a pretty interesting history.  I remember eating Jays chips growing up and you can still find them in the mid-west.  Once produced in a plant in Chicago the company went bankrupt in 2007 and Synder's of Hanover, the pretzel people, bought the name.

If you were lucky in 1986 you got a bag of chips with a baseball disc in it.  Jay's was and still is a regional brand and since Jay's was based in Chicago it's not surprising that in the 20 disc set only 3 teams, The Chicago Cubs and White Sox, and the Brewers, are featured.

If you're a fan of the food issue cards of Robin's from the 80's you'll recognized the much used air-brushed photo of Robin checking out the ladies to the left.

Even though they're regional issues these aren't that hard to find.  A quick search on COMC shows 13 overpriced discs for sale and every Brewers is there too. There are also quite a few available on eBay.

One of my favorite oddball food issue discs from the 80's.

1989 King B Disc

Card Manufacturer: King B
Card Set: King B 2nd Annual Collector's Edition discs
Year: 1989
Card Number: 13

Another great oddball.  I do love the round cards.  King B started putting these discs into its shredded jerky "tins" back in 1988 and continued the set up into the 2000's.  The product was suppose to mimic tobacco chew and the containers even looked like like Chew tins.

Robin would get a disc this year and then next.  King B also put out sets featuring football players.
I'm not sure I've seen this imaged used that much, which is nice.

1977 Pepsi Disc and Glove

Card Manufacturer: MSA
Card Set; Pepsi Disc
Set Type: Food Issue (Giveaway)
Year: 1977
Card Number: 1
Card Type: Base Disc
Note: Full Intact Glove

I know it seems like every time I put a post up I have a new favorite card.  But truly if you were to ask me what was my favorite oddball Yount card this would probably be it.

Robin has a bunch of 1977 MSA discs in various sets, but the Pepsi Disc/Glove just stands out.  Just a great all around oddball and I'm not sure, but I think this might have been the only baseball disc set that was featured and distributed this way.  Pepsi also released a football set like this.

Believe it or not but these full gloves aren't that hard to find still intact and that's nice to see.  Of course it's not hard to just find the disc either.  It's also great that each glove has the full checklist printed right on there.

This disc also stands out by having the Pepsi-Cola Collection printed across the top instead of the standard 4 stars that adorn a lot of sets.

I ended up picking up a full set of these a while back for a decent price and they are a bitch to store and display. I should point out for the completists that Reggie Jackson and Mike Schmidt both have 4 color variations in the set.
