2005 Leaf Century Collection Dual relic

Year: 2005
Manufacturer: Donruss
Set: Leaf Century Collection
Card Number: 119
Card Type: Insert
Insert Set: Material Fabric Position
Card Attributes: Jersey Relic, Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 012/250

I really liked this set back when it came out and the more I look at the cards I still like it.  Besides the endless sea of parallels there were some really nice hits in this product.  This card however, even if it is technically a hit, is one of those endless parallel cards.  The base card had a bunch of parallels and relic parallels and autograph parallels.  This relic is in the Material Fabric Position set.  I know catchy.  Besides this card Robin had 2 more jersey relics, a bat relic and a couple autos.

2007 Upper Deck Ultimate: Ultimate Star Materials

Card Manufacturer: Upper Deck
Card Set: Ultimate
Year: 2007
Card Number: SM-RY
Card Type: Insert Relic
Insert Set: Ultimate Star Materials Relic
Relic Type: Jersey/Pants
Card Attributes: Relic

Oh Upper Deck how I miss you in the baseball card market.  The early 2000's brought us the age of the relic card and by 2007 relic cards were in their early middle age.  I would say now the relic cards are in their extreme old age. We almost expect to get a relic in every pack so much so that most relic cards are pretty worthless unless you get a superstar.

But there was a day when relic cards were a great hit and getting a card with more than one color meant a higher resale value.  Especially with all the mono-colored swatches out there getting a card like this with the pinstripe directly in the center was quite a score.

Ultimate had some great stuff.  This is a great Yount relic. Simple, but well balanced.  I like the full body shot of Robin. The relic prominently featured with a nice gold foil border and, of course, that gorgeous blue pinstripe dead center.  Unnumbered and fairly common these aren't too expensive and fairly easy to find.  As a matter of fact there's one of these on COMC.com that's under $5.

On a sidenote - currently most of Robin's relics are now bat relics leading me to believe that the card makers might be running out of jerseys to use for cards.  I guess it was bound to happen.

2007 Upper Deck Ultimate: America's Pastime Gold Jersey #d to 25

Card Manufacturer: Upper Deck
Card Set: Ultimate
Year:  2007
Card Number: PM-RY
Card Type: Insert Relic
Insert Set: America's Pastime Gold Game-Used Jersey
Card Attributes: Jersey Relic, Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 16/25

I miss the competition in the baseball card market.  And I miss great simple relic cards like this.  Back in 2007 boxes of Ultimate were about $200 bucks and each box had 4 packs with 4 cards in each pack.  Each pack had 2 relics and one auto, on average.  I can't remember when I picked this up, but sorting through my collection I was struck by just how simple this card is.  The relic window is pretty small, but overall the design is appealing and the holofoil on the card makes it pop.  The baby blue swatch was a nice change up from all the white and pinstripe relics out there.  Of course being numbered to 25 and being the gold parallel you'd expect something more exciting for the relic though. The America's Pastime shield is a nice touch.
