This card came out of Topps' lastest online promotion. I remember seeing people try to sell these before they ever got them in hand and thought it was crazy. Because in order to get the card you won you had to trade another card in your portfolio.

Anyways these are now in hand and now I have one in my hand for the super collection. These cards are absolutely beautiful in person. It came with a protective coating that I removed because it looked terrible. The cards are thick as well. They're about the size of a relic card.

I'm slowly adding a few new Younts to the supercollection. This year is a little slow as Robin hasn't been featured in any base set, but has had a few inserts and relics.

First up is the Topps Museum Collection Canvas Collection.

A great looking card.

Next up is one of two relics Robin has in this years Topps Gypsy Queen. He also has a framed mini relic that has eluded me thus far, but I'm ever vigilant and I'm sure one will make it's way in to the collection sometime this year.

The first new Yount of the year!! 2012 Tribute.

I'm happy to see that Robin's got a few new cards coming out. He's got a relic card in Tribute this year and a card in Topps Museum collection.

All his relic cards are fairly low numbered in Tribute this year and all card come encased.

So far I've only gotten the base relic which is only numbered to 99!

So here's the first 2012 Yount card to finally make it into the collection.

If you read my main blog, Collector's Crack you've already seen this, but this deserves to be put up on the Yount Collector as well.

I just got back from Arizona for my Honeymoon, only 7 months after the fact, of course. We ended up getting to go to two Spring Training games at Maryvale Park, home of the Brewers Spring Training games. I was lucky enough to get to briefly meet Robin Yount and came away with this.

I was on cloud 9 the whole rest of the day, still am!!!

I was searching on eBay the other day and noticed that Mr. Yount has a die-cut card available from Topps' Golden Giveaway promotion.

There are gold versions of this card too, no idea how much rarer they are than the base.

And there's the super rare 1/1 gold inlaid parallel.

I find it amusing that people are already selling the die-cuts on ebay. Topps states that these won't even be available to ship till mid-April and then allow 4 to 6 weeks for delivery. So if you buy this card from a guy on ebay you have to wait till at least mid April to get it, well past the 45 days to file a claim and these sellers also offer another option of trading for the card you buy, but since you can only trade for like items on the giveaway website that means you have to trade another die-cut for the card you bought. Seems like both options are a losing proposition right now. I'm going to wait till these get in hand before going after the base and the gold, but it's nice to see that Robin is going to have a few new cards this year, plus I have a feeling he should make it into a few of the inserts in Series 2 or Update.

Homemade oddballs?

It's been awhile since I posted, I know, my Yount obsession is on the back burner. With nothing new coming out and most of Yount's cards going for way too much on the Ebay it's been sparse in the new card area.

One trend I noticed starting to pop up are these ZeeNut cards being put out. Now while I'm no vintage expert I know that the original ZeeNut cards were put out a long time ago, for a more precise definition we go to the internet, but I make no claims to the accuracy of this information.

Zee-Nut cards were put out by the Collins-McCarthy candy company from 1911 to 1938. The Zee-Nut's are categorized as E136 and E137 in the Standard Catalog. Collins-McCarthy also put a out another issue that is the E135's.

There were various styles the 27 years that the company issued baseball cards.In 1913 the company began putting coupons on the cards that could be redeemed for premiums and the like. A card with the coupon still attached is worth quite a bit more than with the coupon removed, obviously.

But what to do these really cool old timey cards have to do with Robin Yount. Is this the next Topps vintage insert? Maybe, but as I was perusing eBay I came across a seller selling Zee-Nut cards. New Zee-Nut cards. As a matter of fact there's a few sellers selling these. And not just baseball players, movie stars, other sports figures, ect.

That's when I spotted this little guy.

I had no idea what to make of it. I had never actually heard of ZeeNut, until I did a google search to find out more. It's obvious this is somebody or somebodies taking it upon themselves to make their own cards. I couldn't find any info on these cards themselves, but the message boards where the ZeeNut collectors hang out was all about how these cards are screwing up their ebay searches.

Regardless I only paid a few dollars for this card. I didn't know what to expect, but once I got this in hand I have to say, whoever made it did a pretty good job. The paper stock isn't very thick, about the feel of the Topps Kimball's, but the printing and die cutting was very well done. I've seen multiple ZeeNut Younts on Ebay since I got this card. And the asking price is way more than I would pay for a homemade oddball. But I'm not ashamed to add this little one to my Yount Collection. Here take a gander.

1988 Grenada Stamps M6532 Yount Panel

I'm an oddball lover. Food issues, discs, die-cut, parallels, mini's, you name it and of course who doesn't love stamps. I had a small stamp collection growing up, nothing super and I was never really into it, but I always love when one hobby intersects with another. Here we have my full panel of 1988 Grenada Stamps featuring Robin Yount and a slew of other HOFers and All-Stars.

Over all there were nine different 9 stamp panels with a total of 81 individual stamps. The Stamp catalog number for this set is M6532. A full set of sheets will set you back about 20 bucks or so. Here's a close up of the individual stamps with of course Mr. Yount first in line.

Charlie is the only one on the sheet I didn't readily recognize. After a quick Google search I find out he played for 24 years in the majors with the majority of his time split between the Dodgers and the
Rangers and then playing 2 years a piece with the White Sox and the Marlins at the end of his career.

Just an interesting note for Mr. Aaron here who is pictured in his Milwaukee Braves jersey on an Atlanta Braves stamp.

A really nice panel full of great players and a great collectible for any PC collection of any of these great players.

Finally my 2008 Sterling set is complete!!! Plus a low numbered Prime Cuts

I've been looking for this card for a while. Over 3 years to be exact. It's the last of the 2008 Topps Sterling Yount Base cards. #225 has eluded me for a long time. I kept losing auctions because I'm cheap. I saw this one on eBay with a buy it now price of 6 bucks, but with free shipping. Hmmm. A thought about it and saw another 225 up for auction starting at .99 cents so I put this one in my watch list and went after the one up for auction. I put a max big that would make the card just about 6 bucks with shipping figuring if someone over bids me I'll just go grab that other card for 6 bucks and free shipping and be done with it. In the end that's what I ended up doing. Another funny coincidence is that the card shop in Las Vegas, Legacy Sportscards, that I bought this card from is the same card shop I went to when I was in Vegas a few years back and living in Haines. Just kinda funny.

I also picked up a nice 2008 Playoff Prime Cuts bat card numbered to 49 for super cheap with free shipping while I was shopping on ebay to.

A new Yount for a new Year

If anyone that reads this blog also reads my main blog, Collector's Crack, you know I had all my eTopps shipped to me using my performance points before Topps shipping changed this new year. So honestly this isn't a new Yount card, but new in hand as it has been sitting in my eTopps account since 2004.

It's from the eTopps Baseball Classics set. From 2002 to 2006 Topps issued 70 cards in this set. 20 in 2002, 2003, and 2004 and just 5 in 2005 and 2006.

A quick look around the eTopps website and it shows that Yount is one of the most valuable of the Baseball Classics cards only beat in all 5 years by Roberto Clemente. Of course this only tracks sales of eTopps card still held by the company and sold on the Ebay trading floor.

While this card isn't individually numbered like some of the later cards, according to the eTopps website there were only 1,002 cards produced, making it a fairly rare card.

Been slow on pick-ups for the Yount collection. I did manage to bring in two "new" cards though.

I'm still slowly picking up 2008 Sterling parallel cards.
Picked up another White Framed #d to 50 I didn't have yet.

I also found a seller selling a 2002 T206 Yount Mini with Polar Bear back in blue uniform. I had the Polar Bear in pin stripe so it was nice to complete the set.

I'll be honest the "card shows" here in Anchorage kinda suck. So much so, that they usually get put on with the Stamp and Coin shows at one of the local malls. It's the same guys, who I usually see at trade nights, and the same stuff. I got an email about a show last weekend and decided heck why not. I had a twenty in my pocket that begged to be traded for cards. There were only two sellers there and I looked through all the boxes and pulled out cheap Packers parallels and then I found gold. Literally, well parallely anyways.

I've been trying to pick up one of these 2011 Yount Gold Parallels for a while now and they always seem to go for way too much on ebay. I ended up picking this guy up for a couple of bucks. Way cheaper than online and no shipping. Welcome to the collection!

A New Yount I Can't believe I didn't have!

Just a quicky. I was searching ebay one day and decided to peruse the Yount listings. When I saw this card I took pause. I know I don't know every Yount I have by sight, but for some reason this one stuck out at me. So I went to my master collection list and lo and behold a card not on the list. And this one had a buy it now price that was very reasonable. So welcome 2004 Elite Robin Yount, welcome.

1991 Star Stellar Set and a Long over due thank you.

Well now.... First off let me apologize for the sparseness of posts here lately. Life seems to get in the way sometimes and while I've been trying to post fairly regularly over at my main blog Collector's Crack, my ancillary blogs like this one have kinda fallen to the wayside. But with the summer field season now at a close and a long Alaskan winter in front of me it's time to get back to it.

You may remember, or not it's been so long, that I posted about another Yount supercollector way back in Feburary. And to call Matt a supercollector is putting it lightly, he puts my collection to shame. He was genrerous enough to send me a huge selection of graded Younts that he wanted to get rid of. They found a nice home in my collection and then Matt went and sent me another box a few weeks later. And this is my long over due thank you. I've been meaning to post something about this literally for over 6 months, 6 freaking months!. I had this great box of stuff Matt sent me sitting there waiting to be scanned and inventoried and added and it kinda just sat there. I blame getting married, but it's not that I didn't think about it. Inside that box were more graded goodies but also lots of raw cards. There were relics and numbered cards, old police issues and even a few Rollie Fingers. So over the next few months I plan on posting quite a bit about that generous donation, long over due. And I'll put the Rollies up over at the Rollie Finger Collector.

I started going though that box a few days ago and the first thing I grabbed was this set of 1991 Star Stellar cards. This set has a print run of only about 500 I do believe and is one of the tougher sets to find. The standard Catalog lists these cards for about $4.50 a piece so they aint' cheap. Yount was featured on cards #28 to 36. And here are all 9.

You'll notice the lettering is kinda fuzzy. I thought that this was from ink bleeding, but I actually thing this was how it was printed. To give the effect of glowing.

Slow but Great

Wow I can't believe it's been so long since I posted here. I apologize to all the Yountophiles out there. Been slow on the new acquisitions and I've got some other stuff to post but been really busy, but now that things have calmed down at work I plan on posting much more frequently. But I'm just here to show off a recent grab off the eBay.

A 2009 Topps Sterling White Suede #d to 50. Would you be shocked if I told you I picked this bad boy up for under a dollar? Well not with shipping but purchase price was .99 cents. What a grab! I remembering bidding on these in 2009 and 2010 and they were going upwards of 20 bucks. Oh time you are my great equalizer.

Well I've been slowly picking up new Younts as they come out. Tribute had a bunch and prices are just now coming into my reach for some of the lower numbered parallels. In the mean time I was in on A Cardboard Problems Gypsy Queen group break and picked up most of the basic and a few insert Younts. No mini's but I've been picking them up on Ebay when convenient. Any ways here a few new ones to add to the list.

Well 2011 Tribute is out and not only does Mr. Yount have a base card this year again, he has quite a few relics. I had been biding my time and finally got the lowest rung of the Tribute base cards, the base card. I've been looking and waiting for the frenzy to quiet down, hopefully when Gypsy Queen hits next week it'll take the focus off Younts Tribute cards, although he does make an appearance in that issue as well.

I will be actively persuing all the parallels, but I've decided to concentrate on Rollie Fingers first. And since Ryan Braun just signed a 5 year gazillion dollar extension with the Brewers, effectively making him a Brewer till 2020, I've decided to officially add him to my Player Collections. Yes I already collected Braun with team sets and cheap relic pick ups ect, but now it's official and will be put in the side bar of Collector's Crack!!!

New Younts on the Horizon

Next month a couple new Topps products come out, Tribute and the retro Gypsy Queen. After looking over the checklists and sell sheets Mr. Yount is going to make a few appearances in both sets, in both the base and hit cards, as well as, all the variations. I've made a little checklist for myself and any other Yountophiles that would like to keep track of the all the new Yount options coming out next month.

Topps has a lot of TBA on it's current checklist so there might be other cards that pop up, I wouldn't hold my breath and I can't say this checklist is totally complete, but if anyone knows of any other variations or cards that Robin Yount appears in these two sets let me know.

Yount has already had 2 cards issued this year from Topps Series 1. 60 Years of Topps #25 both the regular and original backs. Like I said if anyone know of any more parallels or inserts or if any of this is wrong let me know. I know I'll be going after a few of these. I probably won't be able to snag a 1/1 printing plate, but I'm might try for a couple low numbered parallels.

WOW! Generosity from the Greatest Yount Supercollector

I consider myself a Yount supercollector. I do. Yount is my #1 Player collection. I rank Rollie fingers as my #2, with Reggie Jackson and Brett Favre tied for #3. But Yount is my man. I'm lucky enough to have seen him play a few times before he retired while I was in college and I have to say those road trips down to County Stadium with my college buds were some good times. Growing up it was an odd pleasure to see a Brewers game on TV for me being a military brat at the time and spending most of my formative years out of Wisconsin. But it's nice to know that the Yount Collector has some fans.

Matt emailed me and posted on here a while back that he like the site and was himself a big Yount fan and collector. I guess big is an understatement. See Matt holds the distinction of having the finest set of all time on the PSA registry and the finest complete master set of Yount cards. This is all Yount's cards produced in his career not all cards produced ever, but I'm sure Matt has a ton of the newer stuff as well. You can find the collection here on the PSA Registry website. The funny thing is I actually ran across Matt's collection pursuing the site looking for Younts I needed and should go after. I remember being a little awestruck by the sheer size and completeness, not to mention just the time and resources that obviously went into putting something like that together. Not only that by Matt has pictures of everyone of them on his registry sight. A great visual reference as well.

Anyways Matt said he had a bunch of extra Younts and more specifically some that weren't on my collection list that I could have if I sent him my address. Not to look a gift horse in the mouth I sent Matt back a reply and a thank you and a few weeks later I had a box sitting on my door step. What was inside blew me away. The box was kinda heavy, which I though was kinda odd. I had been expecting maybe a bubble mailer with a small stack of raw cards that I needed. I was curious this was much too heavy to be a few cards it had to be a crap load!! Well even more to my surprise was that it was a nice selection of Younts but they were all graded!! 38 to be exact. I was pretty blow away. I have been picking up cheap graded Younts here and there when I find them but wow.

So I just want to thank Matt again. What a generous and awesome thing you have done.

First up is the 1993 Topps Rockies Inaugural stamp card. There is also a Marlin's version of this card.

The 1982 Fleer Stamps Yount. This is one of the "cards" I didn't have that I now get to add to the have list.

a 1983 Perma-Graphics credit card. If you've ever seen one of these you know what I mean about it being a credit card. The "card" were printed on plastic.

Another "card" I didn't have. So many stickers.

I could I had all three years of the glossy send in's but I don't see this on my list so score. Plus these cards can be hard to find. Especially in such nice shape.

My first 2011 Yount

Yes I already posted this card over at Collector's Crack as part of my 2 Jumbo Box Break. But I'm going to post it here simply because it's my first 2011 issued cards of Robin Yount.

Yeah it's a reprint of this 1976 card but new is new.

A couple new Younts for the Super Collection

It's been a fairly slow Yount month or months rather. But I did pick up two new Younts for the collection.

First was from a 1983 Gardner's Bakery's Brewer Set that I blogged about in the complete form over at Miles from Miller.

A great card and it reminded me of how many Gardner's Younts I'm missing so that'll be a new focus for a while.

And there has been a few low numbered 2010 Sterling Parallels on ebay right now, but they're going for way too much money for this cheap bastard so I settled for picking up a White Suede #d to 50 parallel.

I'm looking forward to Series 1 coming out next week. I do believe there are a few Younts sprinkled into the 60th anniversary set.

A Reader comes through Yount Star Co. Checklist

Sorry if this is redundant this was also published over at Collector's Crack.

A few weeks back I post a new Yount Card I got over at the Yount Collector. And asked if anyone had any information or new of a site that had information about the sets Star put out in the early 90's. I've consulted the great bible of Baseball cards the Standard Catalog and either I passed over some or it's incomplete. Maybe both. Anyway, reader John set me an email today with a list and link to what he believes is to be a fairly complete checklist of the Star Co. sets. John said he was only missing one card out of the checklist and I asked him if he'd mind if I published his letter. Here it is.

Hello fellow Yount fan!

As a fellow former Wisconsinite, now transplanted to the West Coast, I have been enjoying reading your blogs, and your recent article about the Star Company sets rang a bell for me, as these cards seem to be rather lacking in details in the guide books. I have had a heck of a time trying to figure out all the Yount cards issued by them. Not sure if it was because they were not an 'officially licensed' set, or what the deal is, but just darn hard to get information. But I 'think' I have managed to compile a list. Also, I am not overly savvy yet on on-line photo posting, but I did try and upload pictures of all of the Yount Star company cards here:

As far as I know, I am only missing one, the 1990 Star Glossy promo. If any of your readers can help in tracking down this card, or know of any other Star Co. Yount cards I am missing, I would greatly appreciate the information.

The Star Co. cards have some irregularities in numbering and set size, but each set was between 9 and 11 cards, and each was also preceded by a promo card. In 1990 there were parallel 'glossy' sets issued, which are rather hard to distinguish from the regular set, other than to compare side by side, and notice the high gloss finish. So here is the list that I have for the 68 different Yount Star Co:

1) 1990 Star promo - yellow border, blue lettering, blank back (1)

2) 1990 Star set - yellow border, blue lettering, 11 cards in the set, numbered 1 of 11, 2 of 11 etc. on back (11)

3) 1990 Star Glossy promo - missing from my collection (1)

4) 1990 Star Glossy set - yellow border, blue lettering, 11 cards in the set, numbered 1 of 11, 2 of 11 etc. on back, super high gloss on front, hard to distinguish from regular set without comparing side by side (11)

5) 1990 Star Robin Yount/Kevin Mitchell set promo - yellow border, brown lettering, blank back (1)
