On the Radar - 2021 Topps Allen and Ginter Chrome Yount checklist

Well in the growing Topps trend of Chroming everything Allen and Ginter is back with another year of Chrome cards.  Robin was featured in the regular and X sets and is also in this set in the same card position #22.  So we also get all the color and mini parallels to chase.  I'll add images as stuff starts showing up.

2019 Panini Prizm Red, White, and Blue Prizm

Year: 2019
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Prizm
Card Number: 216
Card Type: Base Parallel
Parallel Set: Red, White, and Blue

I wish I could remember exactly where I got this bad boy.  I want to say I actually acquired it from one of my LCSs and that's probably true, but for the life of me I can't exactly remember.  Regardless, I love the look and color of this card.  Still not a fan of the crappy air brushing and color shifts that Panini has to do, but the overall look of this card is great.  That's the nice thing about Prizm there are a ton of card parallels to chase.  Or maybe that's the worst thing.  I guess it depends on your goal.  For me the best part of collecting is the chase so I like having a ton of parallels to try and track down.

I have been slowly acquiring other parallels over at COMC when I find them for a good price, but sadly they are still over there.  It's been over a year since I've had my cards portfolio emptied out.  I've been contemplating putting in an order to have my cards delivered even though shipping is way backed up, but still haven't pulled that trigger.

2019 Topps Series 2 Silver Pack Promotion 1984 Chrome Gold Refractor

Year: 2019
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Silver Pack Promotion
Card Number: T84-24
Card Type: Parallel
Parallel Set: Gold Refractor
Card Attributes: Serial Number
Serial Number: 15/50

COMC Black Friday Haul #28

After scanning all my Black Friday haul cards I realized just how many 2019 cards I picked up this year.  A lot. But to be fair I've pretty much stopped using eBay for card purchases, so it makes sense most of my new year card would be from COMC.  I did splurge this year spending enough to qualify for free shipping, something I did not intend to do, but I got close enough and had quite a few cards on my watch list I wanted so why not?

One of the cards that popped up just at the right time for the right price was this 2019 1984 Tribute Silver Pack promotion gold refractor.  I had been about to pull the trigger on a different parallel from this set when this one popped up at a cheaper price point so it gets to come home to me.  The scan really doesn't do this card justice, it's very shiny and gold!!!!

2005 Topps Pristine Legends Uncirculated Encased Refractor

Year: 2005
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Pristine Legends
Card Number: 43
Card Type: Uncirculated Encased Refractor Parallel
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 543/549

Wow been a crazy month for me work wise.  But as May comes to a close my schedule will be slowing way down.  What better way to get back into the swing of things than with a nice shiny card. 2005 Topps Pristine would be the last year Topps would produce the brand.  It had an interesting box scheme.  Each box had 5 packs.  Each pack had one uncirculated card and then another pack.  Inside the inner pack was a relic card and another pack.  And inside that inner pack were the base cards.   Robin has a few cards in this set including an auto, a relic,  a base card, and a bunch of parallel cards.   My apologies for the blurriness of the card, but these encased cards scan horribly.  There is an nice little write up on the back that mentions team mate Hank Aaron and Robin's HOF career stats.

1993 Topps Finest

Year: 1993
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Finest
Card Number: 192
Card Type: Base

We are lucky that Robin played long enough to be in the inaugural release of Topps Finest. From what I've read Finest was a huge success and I guess we can infer that since Topps has been putting out a Finest set ever since. But back then there weren't 18 types of refractors there was just one and it was super popular.  As a matter of fact Baseball Cardpedia states that it's estimated that there only 30000 base cards for each player produced and about 241 refractors.  That base allocation may seem like a lot, but remember this is 1993, the height of overproduction where card companies boasted that cards were limited to just 100,000 copies!

By today's standards this card isn't rare.  But it's refractor parallels are and are highly sought after, As a matter of fact collector Phil Gold has a website documenting his hoarding quest and realized real time prices.  Robin's refractor goes for about $70 raw and almost $250 for a graded Mint 9.

Me I'm a simple man and I'm more than happy to just have Robin's base card.  Although I still keep my eye out for a reasonable refractor.
