2005 Donruss Classics - Legendary Lumberjacks

Year: 2005
Card Manufacturer: Donruss
Set: Classics
Card Number: LP-37
Card Type: Insert
Insert Set: Legendary Lumberjacks
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 286/400

Another pick up from my latest COMC delivery (see past posts for more details).  2005 is the year that keeps on giving, or at least will be the year that I'll always be able to find something I'm missing.  Not hard when Robin had over 1000 cards produced with his likeness that year.  The legendary series features a few different relics, but the overall theme is the base cards, while low numbered, are still for the design which has relic, auto, and relic auto versions.

2004 Donruss Classics - Legendary Jackets

Year: 2004
Card Manufacturer: Donruss
Set: Classics
Card Number: LJK-39
Card Type: Insert
Insert Set: Legendary Jackets
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 45/50

Continuing my posts about my recent COMC delivery, let's go back a few year's to the age of insane set parallels.  While 2005 might be the peak of crazy, parallel heavy sets, 2004 gives it a good run.  And the 2004 Classics set is a great example.  It's also a great set if you collect HOF players as they are crammed into this set and Robin is no exception.  Just looking at the checklist for this set, Robin and Paul Molitor are all over this set, various insert sets and parallels.

One of the odder and rarer of the inserts is this Legendary Jackets insert.  All the Legendary inserts look similar with this basic design.  The Legendary Jackets set has a base run of only 50 cards and features 60 HOFers.  There is a relic version of this card, but that set only features 6 players out of the base set and Robin isn't one of them.  Overall this insert and it's cousins look like a lot of inserts there were designed to also be used in the relic, autograph, and auto relic parallels.  And too be honest the insert feels clunky and pointless.  The blurb on the back doesn't help define what Donruss was trying to do with this set, but the overall goal I think was to be able to put out different kinds of relics, this one featuring bits of player worn jackets, but with a relic run only covering 10% of the base checklist it seems almost pointless.  But that seems to sum up a lot of the inserts from this time frame.

2005 Upper Deck Classics Star Retro Rookies

Year: 2005
Manufacturer: Upper Deck
Set: Upper Deck Classics
Card Number: 124
Card Type: Base, Sub-set
Sub-set: Star Retro Rookies

I wonder if Panini has a solid TM on the term Classics now.  Seems like back in the late 90s and early 2000s everyone had a Classics set.  2005 also happens to be the year that there were over 1000 different Yount cards produced, this is just one.  Upper Deck put out a couple HOF and retro sets this year.  Robin has multiple cards to chase in the set from 3 base paralles to insert, relics and a couple autographs.

The photo used screams retro for sure.  Baby blue uni, check.  Flip up sunglasses, check.  Long wavy hair, check.  Pretty basic back with a small factoid, full career stats on one line and basic player info.

2005 Upper Deck Classics - Classics Counterparts Dual Relic

Year: 2005
Manufacturer: Upper Deck
Set:  Classics
Card Number: CC-MY
Card Type: Insert Relic
Insert Set: Classic Counterparts Materials
Card Attributes: Piece of Authentic
Relic Type: Jersey
Note: Dual relic with Paul Molitor

Going back to the time of plenty.  I really like this insert set. Of course what's not to love about a card featuring two Brewers legends?  And of course it's a dual relic.  The Counterparts insert set consists of a base card numbered to 1999, this relic version, and an autographed version.  Relic and autograph cards are not numbered. Robin and Paul both have base cards in the set, as well as, being featured in other insert sets.

Insert Set: Legendary Jerseys
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered

COMC Black Friday Haul #49

Another Donruss set with a lot of inserts and insert parallels.  In the Donruss Classics product was the Legendary inserts.  These inserts were called things like Legendary Jackets, Legendary Jerseys, Legendary Leather...you get the picture.  Every set had a non-relic base cards.  That had a low serial numbered print run and then at least one relic parallel, sometime many, many more.  I've had a few of these for a while, but being low numbered they don't pop up that often and a lot of times people want way more than I'm willing to pay for them.  But then sometimes you get lucky.  As a matter of fact sometime really lucky as I picked this card up for just over a dollar, it's another one of those cards I didn't get during the Black Friday sales event, but rather a random pick up mid-year.  While I love the two big events the COMC has, the Spring Cleaning sale and Black Friday, I'm always on the hunt on the website.

2014 Panini Classics Timeless Tributes Silver

Year:  2014
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Classics Baseball
Card Number: 113
Card Type: Base Parallel
Parallel Set: Timeless Tributes Silver
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 090/149

COMC Black Friday Haul #26

I picked up some nice parallels this last card season.  One of those was this Panini Classics Time Tributes Silver parallel.  There are two other Timeless Tributes parallels the Gold and Platinum, numbered to 25 and 1, so the likelyhood of those parallel falling into the collection are slim, but I'm glad to be able to add this fairly low numbered card.  While not as terrible as some of the other cards Robin has in Panini products it's still not great.  Not so terrible that I'm not going to add this card to the collection, but still...  The airbrushing isn't huge on the card with just the batting helmet logo gone and the uniform color isn't as terrible as some of the other cards I've seen where it's recolored to a dark navy blue and almost black.  Nice little blurb on the back with career totals.

2002 Donruss Classics Timeless Treasures Chicago National Parallel Promo

Year: 2002
Manufacturer: Donruss
Set: Donruss Classics
Card Number: 175
Card Type: Parallel/Promo
Parallel/Promo Type: Chicago National
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 2/5

I'm pretty sure I don't own any 1 of 1 cards featuring Robin.  So this card, numbered to just 5, is probably one the rarest I have.  It took me a little research to figure out exactly what I had.  The card is stamped with the National Logo, but it's hard to read.  I'm not sure if these were prizes or inserted into packs or part of a VIP bag.  If anyone knows let me know.

I'm sure I got this off of eBay way back in the day, but how much I paid for it has been lost to the winds of time, but I doubt it was super expensive, because even before I had a mortgage, wife, and child I was pretty frugal with my card spending.  But who knows?  Still a great card from the height of insert/parallel frenzy that was the early 2000s.

2014 Panini Classics

Card Manufacturer: Panini
Card Set: Classics
Year: 2014
Card Number: 113
Card Type: Base

Panini revived the Classics line this year.  In years past it was probably one of my favorite sets from Donruss, with a great checklist and some pretty awesome hits.  And while the checklist and the hits are pretty nice this year the lack of logos does drag this issue down a bit.

This card also has 3 parallels, silver, gold and platinum and there is a auto relic version too.

Robin also has a bunch of low numbered auto relics in this set. But thank goodness that he also has a cheap run of the mill base card.  The overall design is ok, but it just seems like there's a ton of wasted space on the front of the card.

2014 Panini Classics Baseball Yount checklist and gallery

Panini Classics Baseball brings back the old Donruss brand and a really stacked checklist of autos and relics from the greats.  Sadly without logos.  After looking thought the checklist Robin has a base card and 19 other parallel and insert cards to chase.  Looks like most of the autos and relics will be very limited and of course that means a premium price although probably slightly less than a fully licensed product, but that doesn't mean they'll be cheap.
Here are all his cards I found while looking thought the checklist. If you noticed  one I missed let me know and I'll add it.

I'll also add some scans when I find examples of the cards later.
