2007 Upper Deck SP Legendary Cuts: Legendary Materials Dual Relic #d to 125

Card Manufacturer: Upper Deck
Card Set: SP Legendary Cuts
Year: 2007
Card Number: LM-RY1
Card Type: Insert
Insert Set: Legendary Materials Dual Relic
Relic Type: Jersey/Pants
Card Attributes: Relics, Serial Numbered
Serial Number 104/125

I have a love hate relationship with relic cards.  First I love the relic cards that feature Robin, but I hate the boring plain old single color swatch.  But I'll take what I can get and afford.

The 2007 SP Legendary Cuts offers a bunch of Yount cards.  The Legendary Materials relics come in all sorts of flavors and Robin has 2 cards in the set.  I have no idea why Upper Deck chose to use the word CUTS for the relic opening. As you can see we get two swatches, or maybe it's just one larger piece, it's hard to tell.  You can probably guess that they other variations of this relic card come in single, triple and quad relics and there is also an autographed version and an auto relic version.  Overall not a terrible card, but the photo is small and back of the card really offers nothing.

2007 Upper Deck Sweet Spot Classic Signatures Silver Stitch Blue Ink Autographed card #d to 19!

Card Manufacturer: Upper Deck
Card Set: Sweet Spot Classic
Year: 2007
Card Number: SPS-RY
Card Type: Insert
Insert Set: Signatures Silver Stitch Blue Ink Parallel
Card Attributes: Autograph, Serial numbered
Serial Number: 15/19

Here we have the saddest of autographs in my autograph collection.  I will say I really like this card.  I really miss the Sweet Spot brand. The idea behind this card is pretty awesome.  You get an autograph on the sweetspot of a baseball mounted in a card.  Of course the idea was a good one, however using sub par leather, or maybe even pleather here has doomed this auto like so many others. The ink is slowly fading and being absorbed.  I haven't checked on this auto since I made this scan a while back so I'm not sure what stage of decay the card is in right now, but at least it was still readable.  This is also an insanely low numbered set, numbered to Robin's number and very, very thick.

I'm actually surprised Topps hasn't tried to copy this.  It looked like for a while it might do something like this with a manurelic back when it was churning out manufactured bat barrels and glove cards.

But still a great card in the collection, even if time is not on my side.

2007 Topps Triple Threads base card

Card Manufacturer: Topps
Card Set: Triple Threads
Year: 2007
Card Number: 124
Card Type: Base
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 0939/1350

Triple Threads is one of those issues that it's the base that changes and the relics and hits seem to stay the same.  Robin has base cards in the first 3 sets issued from 2006- 2008 and then didn't get another base card until 2013.  Early in the brands days the base cards were numbered, but Topps stopped that a few years back.  Robin has card #124 in the set and gets all the associated parallels.

Not a bad looking card and it's an image that Topps didn't use too much. I like the feel of these card. It looks like it would take an autograph well and the red base cards make a pretty bold statement.

2007 Upper Deck Ultimate: Ultimate Star Materials

Card Manufacturer: Upper Deck
Card Set: Ultimate
Year: 2007
Card Number: SM-RY
Card Type: Insert Relic
Insert Set: Ultimate Star Materials Relic
Relic Type: Jersey/Pants
Card Attributes: Relic

Oh Upper Deck how I miss you in the baseball card market.  The early 2000's brought us the age of the relic card and by 2007 relic cards were in their early middle age.  I would say now the relic cards are in their extreme old age. We almost expect to get a relic in every pack so much so that most relic cards are pretty worthless unless you get a superstar.

But there was a day when relic cards were a great hit and getting a card with more than one color meant a higher resale value.  Especially with all the mono-colored swatches out there getting a card like this with the pinstripe directly in the center was quite a score.

Ultimate had some great stuff.  This is a great Yount relic. Simple, but well balanced.  I like the full body shot of Robin. The relic prominently featured with a nice gold foil border and, of course, that gorgeous blue pinstripe dead center.  Unnumbered and fairly common these aren't too expensive and fairly easy to find.  As a matter of fact there's one of these on COMC.com that's under $5.

On a sidenote - currently most of Robin's relics are now bat relics leading me to believe that the card makers might be running out of jerseys to use for cards.  I guess it was bound to happen.

2007 Upper Deck SP Legendary Cuts #67

Card Manufacturer: Upper Deck
Card Set: SP Legendary Cuts
Year:  2007
Card Number: 67
Card Type: Base

In 2001 Upper Deck put out it's first Legendary Cuts product and continued to do so up until it lost it's MLB license.

The design reminds me of the old cabinet cards of yore. A really nice design for a set mostly known for it's great hits. The base set featured 100 cards and no parallels.  Robin has a bunch of relic cards in this set as well and I think he might have an auto or two as well.

2007 Upper Deck Sweet Spot Classic Memorabilia

Card Manufacturer:  Upper Deck
Card Set: Sweet Spot Classic
Year:  2007
Card Number: CM-YO
Card Type: Insert Relic
Relic Type: Bat

Sweet Spot was a great offering from Upper Deck.  A higher end product that wasn't so higher end that you had to blow you rent money to buy a box or pack.  And included in the set were some pretty cool cards.
Of course there are always your run of the mill relic cards inserted too.  I'll take a bat relic with some nice wood grain over a single color swatch relic any day. Nowadays it seems like the only Yount relics begin put out are bat relics and soon we'll probably only be left with his golf shirts.  I really miss the Upper Deck style of cards, with the borderless full bleed photos and nice simple designs.  I always wonder why Topps doesn't use this style more or why Panini doesn't use this style at all.  Just a classically simple relic card.

2007 Upper Deck Premier: Premier Penmanship Autograph card.

Card Manufacturer: Upper Deck
Card Set: UD Premier
Year:  2007
Card Number: PEN-RY
Card Type: Insert Autograph
Insert Set: Premier Penmanship
Card Attributes: Autographed, Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 69/74

I own a few Yount autos.  Not a ton, because they tend to go for a good price and prices for his autographed cards have definitely gone up in the last few years.  And that's great for the overall value of my collection, but that doesn't help in picking up new cards.  Anyway I picked this guy up a few years back and I'm sure I didn't get it cheap, but I can't remember.  And to be honest I had forgotten I even had this card till I was scanning in cards from the collection to post on here and for my own inventory purposes.  Sure I have this indexed in my Yount spreadsheet and on my Collection page, but sometimes you just lose track of this stuff. And that's a shame because this really is a great card and one I'm glad to have in the collection.  Yep it's a sticker auto, but a damn nice card and very low numbered. As a matter of fact these cards are numbered to the players rookie year and for Robin that was 1974.

This set was another super premium offering from Upper Deck with one 7 card pack per box.  But it was pretty loaded. As a matter of fact all but two of the cards were in the box were suppose to be relics, autos or auto relics.  So the base and rookie cards that come with it were sometimes a harder pull and those too were serial numbered.

2007 Upper Deck Ultimate: America's Pastime Gold Jersey #d to 25

Card Manufacturer: Upper Deck
Card Set: Ultimate
Year:  2007
Card Number: PM-RY
Card Type: Insert Relic
Insert Set: America's Pastime Gold Game-Used Jersey
Card Attributes: Jersey Relic, Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 16/25

I miss the competition in the baseball card market.  And I miss great simple relic cards like this.  Back in 2007 boxes of Ultimate were about $200 bucks and each box had 4 packs with 4 cards in each pack.  Each pack had 2 relics and one auto, on average.  I can't remember when I picked this up, but sorting through my collection I was struck by just how simple this card is.  The relic window is pretty small, but overall the design is appealing and the holofoil on the card makes it pop.  The baby blue swatch was a nice change up from all the white and pinstripe relics out there.  Of course being numbered to 25 and being the gold parallel you'd expect something more exciting for the relic though. The America's Pastime shield is a nice touch.

2007 Milwaukee Journal Sentinel 1982 Commemorative Medallion

Manufacturer: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Set: Milwaukee Brewers 1982 American League Champions Medallion Collection
Year:  2007
Card Number: NNO
Card Type: Medallion/Coin

Here is a great oddball I picked up a few years ago.  These medallions commemorate the 1982 Milwaukee Brewers American League Championship.  The set consisted of 23 medallions.  You had to buy a paper, clip the coupon, find a store that still had these in stock, and hand over $2.99. Coupons were put in papers from April 23, 2007 through May 18, 2007. There was also an album you could put all your medallions in. I'm not sure if the albums were inserted in the papers or were available where the Medallions where sold.  This set had all the big names and some names you probably didn't know unless you're a Brewers fan.  Rollie Fingers, Paul Molitor, Cecil Cooper, and more all had coins.

I'm not sure what day Robin's medallion coupon came in the paper.  A really cool oddball commemorating the best team and season the Brewers ever put together.
