New Stuff and Old Stuff

Got a bunch of stuff in the mail yesterday.  And among the gems we this graded Yount.

I was looking for a PSA 10 and couldn't find any on ebay so I settled for this 88 SGC card.  I have to say I'm partial to PSA but SGC does a good job.  I really like the black holder and corner protectors.  The liner really makes the card stand out.  Pretty desent centering but definately not 50/50 and just a touch on one corner.  I absolutely agree with the grading on this card and I wish it was gem mint 10 or 100 in SGC's case but its really clean and sharp.  A nice addition to the collection.  I think this actually be my first SGC graded card.  Not to shabby. And I got this card for about 5 bucks total that's including shipping!! It costs at least that much to have this card graded if not more.

I also got a lot of 1983 Donruss Action All Star unopened packs all with Yount on the front.  I only opened one and that was because I want to take the Rollie Fingers out for the Rollie Fingers Collector Blog.
Donruss put out these oversized cards for 3 yeras staring in 83 to 85.  And there all affordable and easy to come by.

Pack fresh with razor sharp corners and great color.

Until next time

New Stuff Just in Time for Christmas

Well it's been awhile since I posted anything new on my Yount blog but I have posted some stuff on my other blog Collectors Crack http://www.collectorscrack.blogspot.com/ Check it out.  Anywho I have a bunch of new arrivals for my collections.
The first one is a 2004 UD Ultimate Collection Ultimate Achievments Dual Jersey #'d to 82.

Pretty sweet pick up and I do belive I got it for under 5 bucks.  Even more sweet it books for over 25 but like my poppa says, "A card is only what someone is willing to pay for it.'

I also got a lot of oddball oversized Younts for super cheap.  I wish I could remember how much I paid but I've deleted the auction so oh well.  The whole reason I bought the auction anyways was for the Barry Cola Bookmarks insert which books for about 7.50 alone so right there I got my money's worth.

It's funny though the art looks familiar.  Kinda like this card from 92 Fleer. . .

But I also got this other Barry Cola Diamond Marks Bookmark card (which I already had).

I also got the three years of Topps Big 88, 89, and 90.  All nice cards and hard to store.  I just used some larger CardSavers for them and added them to my oversize yount box, along with all my graded and other oddballs.

And finally I bought a lot of 10 cards called 1990 Big League All Stars from M.V.P. ?  I have never seen these cards before but there out of set of 10. Yount is number 7.

Not a bad looking card I just have no idea where they come from.  But it's nice to find a card that I've never seen before and I get to add to my collection.  And they were cheap.  I got the lot for .79 plus shipping.
Until next time kiddo's keep collecting.

The MSA Discs

Well it's been awhile since I posted anything on here and I know I don't have any readers but I still like Robin Yount so i'll post for posterity.

In the 70's and 80's MSA (Michael Schechter Associates) put out a bunch of food issue baseball and football card products and a lot of them were in the form of discs. In 1977 they issued a ton of regional and nationwide promotional sports discs.

The most common front is the one above with the four red stars. All the discs have the green sides. There are a few variations in the discs with other players like Reggie Jackson and Mike Schmidt. But Yount only has the one color. There are a few discs that have personlized fronts.
Namely the Holiday Inn and Pepsi Cola Discs. I've scanned all the backs of all the discs I have. To my knowledge the only discs I know I'm missing is the Saga disc and the Wiffle Ball disc both hard to find and they can be expensive.

One of the hardest to get my hands on was this Wendy's disc. A little more common is the Pepsi Glove's. It's not impossible to find them still intact and in good condition but you do seem to see more of the discs having been removed.

There were lots of MSA discs sets issued in the 70's and 80's unfortunatley for me Robin was only in a few of the sets. If you know of any other discs he has I would be grateful to hear about them. You can see all the sets in the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards.
Until next time keep collecting.

Yount: The Rookies

It's surprising that in 1975 there would actually be more than one rookie card for a player. Topps pretty much had the monopoly on baseball cards. Here is the Topps regualr issue #223, the O-Pee-Chee is the exact same front but I posted a scan of the back so you could see the difference the French and a little better card stock. Also the Team card for the Brewers features Yount in it as well as Hank Aaron.
Then there are the mini versions of the 1975 Topps Issue. I didn't post the pictures because they are the same as the regular size issues only smaller. Use your imagination.
The next rookie is the SSPC set that some actually put at a 1976 issue but is copyright 1975.
I like to count it as a rookie just because I can.

And last but not least are the hostess issue cards. There are actually two. There's the one on the back of the King Don's box and the Twinkee issue.
You can see that the one I have had a twinkee on it. The card is larger and has the black bar on the back. I read somewhere that there are examples of these cards that were never inserted with product and are actually clean. But I've never seen one up for auction or other wise. Most look like the one I got. A little off the subject but there are also 1976, 1977 twinkee's cards too.
The only card I'm missing right now unless I find out about other mysterious rookies is the O Pee Chee team card. But i'm not worried about finding it.
Well here you go. Robin Younts 1975 Rookies.
Until Next time keep collecting.

2002 UD Piece of History

I've been collecting Robin Yount cards for quite a while now. And with ebay it's easier than ever. But there comes a point when you hit a wall where you've got just about everything posted and you're not willing to spend a fortune on all the quad relic super limited autos ect ect. So it's nice when you find a card that's not too pricey that you haven't seen before.

I remember in 2002 when the UD Piece of History set came out because I was excited that it had 3 Yount cards. But I was wrong it had more. It was easy to aquire the base card #51 and the two inserts Tape Measure Heroes and The MVP Club I have still to get the Hitting for the Cycle insert. But a few days ago I got a nice surprise in the mail. I hadn't even realized when they came out and since, mainly since I had never seen one posted that all the insert sets had jersey and sometimes auto jersey variants too!!
So I whipped out the Standard Cataloge of Baseball Cards 2010 edition and low and behold they sure did.

So here you go the base card and two inserts with the Tape Measure Heroes Jersey card. After looking over the catalog. I see that there is no Hitting for the Cycle Bat card for Yount but there is a MVP Club jersey. Maybe one of these days I'll find one.

Until next time Yountophiles keep collecting.

1991 Fleer Yount Variation Little Know and Not Worth Nuttin'

Howdy Brew Heads and Yountophiles,

Today I'm going to talk about, and very briefly, one of the few Yount variations out there. You may not even realize you have it. I didn't until I saw it selling on ebay. I said to myself, mmmm, I have a crap load of 1991 Fleer younts card #601. The Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards 2010 edition doesn't even list this variation. You might vary well miss it if your not looking at the right spot.

The variation is the bat tip is cut off. In the other version you can see the end of the bat.

See that almost unnoticable.

And here's one last cool card from the collection.

Until next time keep collecting.
