1983 Official Baseball Guide panels

Manufacturer: The Sporting News
What?: Cut out Panels from the Official Baseball Guide
Year:1983

I picked these up years ago and to be honest I'm not sure why, and I'm not sure if there was a picture on the auction, but I was intrigued and hungry for stuff to add to my collection.  This was also a time where I had a lot more disposable income.  Basically these 2 panels are cut outs from the 1983 Official Baseball Guide.  And I do believe this is the Sporting News one.  I can't confirm that since I don't have a copy.  But if it is that issue also features Robin on the front.

I guess someone thought hey if I cut these out of the book and sell them I can make some money, and to be honest it worked, because I bought them.  I don't remember them being too expensive, as a matter of fact I probably won them with the 99 cent opening bid.  This is a real oddball in the collection, because these aren't cards or a magazine.  Probably more in the category of those All Star Program inserts people cut out. Yeah I've got some of those too.

2005 Donruss Diamond Kings HOF Heroes Blue Framed parallel

Card Manufacturer: Donruss
Card Set: Diamond Kings
Year: 2005
Card Number: HH-86
Card Type: Insert Parallel
Insert Set: HOF Heroes
Parallel Set: Blue Framed
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 057/100

Well today's the day that Panini resurrects the Diamond King product and what better way to celebrate here on the Yount Collector, since Panini hasn't released a checklist yet so I can't find any Younts in the new set, to post a Yount from the 2005 set.

The 2005 Donruss Diamond Kings set offers tons of parallels and inserts to chase.  Here we have the Blue Framed HOF Heroes insert parallel.  Nice blue foil on the card and of course it low numbered.

I'll be posting a Yount checklist on the new Diamond Kings when it's released and if Robin is in the set.

2005 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection

Card Manufacturer: Upper Deck
Card Set: Ultimate Collection
Year: 2005
Card Number: 130
Card Type: Base
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 142/275

If you're going to do base cards do them right.  Upper Deck's Ultimate Collection was always a fan favorite when it came out.  Still a little too pricey for me to bust unopened product, but always fun to watch box breaks and easy enough to pick up the cards you wanted on the secondary market.

The base cards were numbered to just 475, rookies and retired players were numbered to just 275.

2014 Topps Triple Threads Emerald Parallel

Card Manufacturer: Topps
Card Set: Triple Threads
Year: 2014
Card Number: 21
Card Type: Base Color Parallel
Parallel Type: Emerald
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 233/250

Something Green!  I do believe this was another Black Friday pick up last year.  I find myself less and less interested in chasing down parallels, but if I can find one cheap that I don't have I'll never say no.

Pretty typical Triple Threads design with the player cropped and featured.  I do like the way that it looks like Robin is bursting out of the card with the foil border being interrupted.  Still looks nice and that's kind of the point with Triple Threads and the other high end Topps products.  Even the base cards are meant to be centerpieces even if they are just product filler.

More giant Younts from the online Topps Store - 1952 Style

I'm a little behind on this one, but I haven't seen any of these pop up on the old eBay yet.

Topps has been releasing all sorts of oversized wall art and has a new set out call '52 Tribute putting stars and HOFers in the '52 design.  There is a ton of options.  Robin has 3 "cards" in the set.

Players are available individually and are sized 10x14 on a glossy stock.  Each players base card is numbered to 99 and are priced $29.99.  Players also have a gold version numbered to just 1 and priced $99.99.

There are also team sets available that are sized 5x7 and have 9 cards in the set priced at $19.99, but for $10 bucks more you can upgrade to a gold team set that has an bonus legends card and the cards are numbered to 49.  Robin is the bonus legends card.  Here are the images from Topps.  I'm not sure if there is anything on the back of the cards or not.

The gold pack isn't a bad deal if your looking for a cool low numbered team set and a low numbered Yount and don't want to spring for the gigantic one.  The 5x7  size isn't too bad to display or store.

Oh and the Gold poster numbered to 1 is already gone.

You can find this stuff at Topps.com

Edit: Thanks to Tony L over at Off Hiatus Sportscards for sending me some scans of the actual card, front and back, and you'll notice that Topps actually stamped the serial number instead of hand numbering.

2005 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes Blue Autograph card

Card Manufacturer: Upper Deck
Card Set: Baseball Heroes
Year: 2005
Card Number: 64
Card Type: Base Parallel
Parallel Set: Blue Autographed
Card Attributes: Autographed, Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 16/20

2005 was without a doubt the year that the parallel craze got out of control. And Topps isn't even to blame!  Donruss and Upper Deck put out sets that had so many inserts, parallels, and variations it boggles the mind.

Take the card below.  This is the Blue Autographed version of card #64. Robin has 5 base cards in the set #61-65.  That means that there are 4 more blue autographed cards numbered to 20 you could chase.  As well as autographed green, red, beige, etc.  Let's not even start talking about the relic and auto relic versions.  Whew!

Still a nice card and one of the lowest numbered autographed cards I own.  Sorry for the blurry scan, the card is encased in a protective bunker of lucite, or plastic, or whatever screwdown holders are made of.

2004 Donruss Leather and Lumber Hall of Fame insert

Card Manufacturer: Donruss
Card Set: Leather and Lumber
Year: 2004
Card Number: HF-8
Card Type: Insert
Insert Set: Hall of Fame
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 1211/1999

Like most inserts from Donurss in the mid-2000's the base card was designed with the relic and auto versions in mind.  The Hall of Fame insert has just 9 cards in the set and does has a silver parallel and a relic parallel, no auto version though.

Not an unappealing design, but pretty basic with a small player image and a small write up on the back.  The card is also numbered to Robin's induction year.

The silver parallel I believe is numbered only to 100 and the relic parallel has 250 copies.

2015 Gypsy Queen Yount Checklist

Once again Robin is featured in Topps' Gypsy Queen release.  I'd have to check, but I do believe Robin has been featured in every Gypsy Queen set. No relics or autos in this set, but he does get a base card and all those mini parallels that go with that. The framed parallel checklist hasn't been put out and since that's only a partial set parallel we'll have to see if Robin's included in that after release.

I will be adding some of these to the collection for sure, but I'll be adding as many images, especially of the rarer stuff, to this post when this goes live.

1999 Perez-Steele Hall of Fame Postcard

Card Manufacturer: Perez-Steele Galleries
Card Set: Hall of Fame
Year: 1999
Card Number: 244
Card Type: Base
Card Attributes: Serial numbered
Serial Number: 69/10000

One of my favorite "postcard" cards of Robin.  The Perez-Steele Hall of Fame series started back in 1980 and continued up until 2001 with Dave Winfield being the last HOFer to be immortalized by Perez in the set.  In all there are 253 cards in the set plus a few extra.

1991 Star Stellar #33

Card Manufacturer: Star
Card Set: Stellar
Year: 1991
Card Number: 33
Card Type: Base

Time for another edition of Star Stellar.  Card #33 celebrates Robins 1989 MVP year.

The front of the cards shows a terribly cropped Robin warming up with a donut on his bat.

On the back we have the MVP voting and can see that Robin beat out Ruben Sierra by 28 points and the Iron Man by 40.

1990 Holsum Bread Disc

Card Manufacturer: MSA/Holsum
Card Set: Holsum Superstars Discs
Year: 1990
Card Number: 7

Keeping with the round theme...

Holsum issued a series of baseball discs for three years, 1989, 1990, and 1991. But Holsum's relationship with baseball goes back to the 1920's and the D327 set and Holsum also has issued a couple Football sets.

Robin only appears in the 1990 disc set of Superstars.

1986 Jays Potato Chips Disc

Jays has a pretty interesting history.  I remember eating Jays chips growing up and you can still find them in the mid-west.  Once produced in a plant in Chicago the company went bankrupt in 2007 and Synder's of Hanover, the pretzel people, bought the name.

If you were lucky in 1986 you got a bag of chips with a baseball disc in it.  Jay's was and still is a regional brand and since Jay's was based in Chicago it's not surprising that in the 20 disc set only 3 teams, The Chicago Cubs and White Sox, and the Brewers, are featured.

If you're a fan of the food issue cards of Robin's from the 80's you'll recognized the much used air-brushed photo of Robin checking out the ladies to the left.

Even though they're regional issues these aren't that hard to find.  A quick search on COMC shows 13 overpriced discs for sale and every Brewers is there too. There are also quite a few available on eBay.

One of my favorite oddball food issue discs from the 80's.

2015 Leaf Industry Summit Cut Signature Card

I have my stable of ebay searches.  Some are pretty specific and others are kept pretty broad.  Every couple of days I take a gander at a few of them.  One of my broader searches is just Yount and the year, in this case it was Yount 2015.  I've been trying to find images of Robin's Tribute base card parallels for my Tribute checklist post, which has been tough since the product has been recalled.  I've only found the green parallel to date.  But I did find that this interesting gem had popped up for sale.

For those that don't know the Industry Summit is a get together of the trading card industry, producers, distributors, sellers, card shop owners, etc.  It's a pretty big deal, at least it use to be.  Anyways card companies give away all sorts of cool stuff.  Some shop owners bring the stuff back to give away in their shops, Bosco's here in Anchorage does that all the time. Some of them just put the stuff up on ebay to sell.  Either way we get to see a cool card from Leaf.

I figure I'd post it here to save the image of the card that will undoubtedly be scooped up by some deep pocket Yount collector. I really wish the seller had added a picture of the back of the card.  The card looks very shiny and is a 1 of 1.  I'm not a huge fan of the cut signature cards that have no player image.  The Tricards' ones look terrible, but this one doens't look too bad.  I still don't think I'd be willing to drop the $200 the seller wants, but he does have a best offer option.

2015 Topps Museum Collection Yount Checklist and Gallery

Topps Museum Collection is going live soon and Topps just released the checklist.  Robin has 12 cards in the set, including all the parallels.  No base card this year, but plenty of higher end relics and autographs to chase.  I'm not sure if the base Archival Auto is numbered or what it would be numbered too, but all his other cards are very limited.  I'll be adding images as they become available.
