2015 Hits Cards

While keeping tabs on the most current Yount cards and compiling my checklist and image database I came across this card.  I don't own it.

I wasn't sure what to think at first.  I wondered is this a homemade custom card?  But luckily the company that made it, Hits Cards, put their website address right on the back card.  Not only that but their website includes an image gallery with every card they make along with the corresponding numbered hologram on the back of the card.

They made 10 Yount cards.  This is the only one I saw up for sale on eBay.  You can check out all the cards and the company website here at Hits Cards

Obviously the star of this card is that huge patch with no image of the player featured, but if your looking for a gigantic relic here you go.

1989 King B Disc

Card Manufacturer: King B
Card Set: King B 2nd Annual Collector's Edition discs
Year: 1989
Card Number: 13

Another great oddball.  I do love the round cards.  King B started putting these discs into its shredded jerky "tins" back in 1988 and continued the set up into the 2000's.  The product was suppose to mimic tobacco chew and the containers even looked like like Chew tins.

Robin would get a disc this year and then next.  King B also put out sets featuring football players.
I'm not sure I've seen this imaged used that much, which is nice.

2015 Panini Donruss All-Time Diamond Kings

Card Manufactuer: Panini
Card Set: Donruss Baseball
Year: 2015
Card Number: 8
Card Type: Insert
Insert Set: All-Time Diamond Kings

I finally get to add my first 2015 Yount card to the collection and the checklist. I was really excited to see Robin finally featured in a new product.  I know he's also got cards in the new Tribute, which has been recalled by the way, but this is his first.

I was surprised at how hard a hit these All-Time Diamond Kings inserts are.  From the few box breaks I've seen these only fall about one per box.  Figure that there are 30 cards in the set and 16 boxes per case and this card falls about 1 in every two cases!!  Maybe my math is wrong or the insertion rate.  Either way I found a good deal on the card and decided to pull the trigger.

Over all the card isn't a real looker.  I like the sketch look.  I would like to think that Panini had a talented artist produce at least the large black and white sketch, but it's more likely just a photoshopped photo.  And the colors on the little Robin look all wrong, or at least off.

Overall not the best looking insert, but I'll take what I can get.

2015 Topps Tribute Yount Checklist and Gallery

As I was hoping Robin is featured in the new Tribute set and has a few autos and relics as well, almost 30 cards including all those 1 of 1's.

This checklist will be added to the master 2015 checklist.  I'll be adding images as I find them.

1990 Cadaco Disc

Card Manufacturer: Cadaco
Card Set: All-Star Baseball Game
Year: 1990
Card Number: NNO
Card Type: Base Disc

Cadaco has been around a long time, since 1941, but it wasn't until 1989 (edit: make that 1988 thanks John) that they started putting player images on their discs.  And once they did the discs took on a whole new level of collectiblity.

I won't go over how the game is played but basically you put your player disc in a spinner and spin.  The numbers around the outside of the disc correspond with different batting actions.

I'm a sucker for oddballs, especially round ones.

Here's what an example Batting Key, I'm not sure if this is for the 1990 set or not.

2013 Topps Triple Threads Base card

Card Manufacturer: Topps
Card Set: Triple Threads
Year: 2013
Card Number: 79
Card Type: Base

Back when Triple Threads was new the base cards were all serial numbered to 1350.  Topps has stopped serial numbering the base cards. I wonder if they are still limited to 1350 or if Topps just said screw it.  Regardless the 2013 Base design looks great.  Topps' decision to recycle an over used  kind of blurry photo is not so great.  But I like the framing and I like the base border color.

1976 Hostess Twinkies Single Card

Card Manufacturer: Hostess
Card Set: Hostess Baseball
Year: 1976
Card Number: 11
Card Type: Twinkie Single

There is nothing I like better than the food issue oddballs from the 70's and 80's.  Most collectors know about the 3 card panels on the bottoms of Hostess bottoms from the 70's, but there are also the single card varieties to look for.  I'm not sure if these were done with any other product other than Twinkies, but Robin has a card in at least 3 years, 1975, 1976, and 1977.  I've already featured the 1975 card here.

Ah the good old grease stains.  These card can be found unused.  They're rare and go for a premium price, but for me I don't mind the grease stains and this card has held up well for being almost 40 years old. These cards are identical to the 3 panel box version.

2013 Panini Cooperstown Collection Blue Crystal Shard parallel

Card Manufacturer: Panini
Card Set: Cooperstown
Year: 2013
Card Number: 97
Card Type: Base Parallel
Parallel: Blue Crystal Shard
Card Attributes: Serial numbered
Serial Number: 057/499

Another Black Friday pick up last year.  I'm a sucker for Panini's Cooperstown set. Not enough to try and collect the whole thing, but I love that fact that there's a good bet Robin's going to have a few cards in it.  The scan doesn't do the sparkliness justice.

I'm not a big fan of the black and white photo.  This card would have really popped with that classic blue and gold uniform.

On the Radar -- 2015 Donruss Baseball

Joy. Panini finally release this year's Donruss Series 1 Checklist. I was running through it putting together my Brewers checklist and spotted Robin in the mix.

Robin will be featured in the All-Time Diamond Kings insert set.  He has card #8 in the set and I suppose it'll look a lot like the Griffey card below.  There are also two parallels to the card. The silver press proof #/49 and the gold press proof #/10.

The Robin Yount Magazine and other periodical Checklist

While most of my Robin Yount collection is his baseball cards I decided long ago that I wouldn't limit myself to just those.  In my collection I have baseball cards, drinkware, bobbleheads, coins, and of course magazines.  As long as it features Robin I'll add it to my collection.

So this post is all about the magazines he's been featured on over the years.  This is really a reference for me.  I by no means have all of these, but I thought I'd put to together a checklist and gallery of periodicals that Robin has graced the cover on, at least in part.  This includes, magazine, books, newspapers, media guides, programs, whatever. I realize this is not complete so feel free to chime in if you know of something I've missed and I'll add it to the checklist.

I'll start adding some images when I have time.

0 for 2

Well with Topps Heritage being released tomorrow I've scoured the checklist putting together my Ultimate Brewers checklist.  You can see that here. After combing though the set, Robin does not appear in any of the inserts.  That's not surprising. As far as I can remember without doing some research, Robin has never been in Topps Heritage.  That doesn't mean there weren't spots he could have found himself in the checklist, but so far with two Topps releases we don't have any new Yount cards to speak of, unless there are a few Series 1 Buyback cards out there.

1995 Upper Deck Collector's Choice Gold Signature

Card Manufacturer: Upper Deck
Card Set: Collector's Choice
Year: 1995
Card Number: 47
Card Type: Base Parallel
Parallel set: Gold Signature

We can thank the 1992 Topps set for introducing us to the age of parallel cards.  But it didn't take long for most of the other card companies to realize what a opportunity it was.  And by the mid-90's everyone was doing it.  Score had it's Gold Rush, Donruss it's Special Edition, Upper Deck had Electric Diamonds, Fleer had it's Tiffany's, Topps it's Gold foil, and of course Upper Deck's cheap set, Collector's Choice had it's Gold and Silver Signatures.  These started in 1994 with Upper Deck's first Collector's Choice set and went on for years.

I for the life of me can't remember how rare these were or if you got one signature per pack, silver or gold, and I'm a little too lazy to look it up right now.  I do know the golds are rarer than the silvers.  And like all the parallels back in the 90's we collector's ate this up.

Overall the facsimile auto adds a nice touch to a relatively basic card.
